March 17, 2006  -  Robert R. (Bob) King, retired Chairman of the Board of Atlanta-based StayOnline, and hospitality industry pioneer, has passed away at the age of 71.  King died Wednesday March 15, 2006 in Atlanta.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 19 at 3:00 PM at Northside United Methodist Church with Dr. G. Gill Watson officiating.

King enjoyed a lengthy and successful career in tourism and hospitality. He served for 20 years as President of the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association, and held various senior executive positions at resort properties on St. Simons Island, GA; Hilton Head Island, SC; and Pine Mountain, Georgia.

King was a member of StayOnline's Board since the company’s inception in 1999. In 2001, he joined the company full time as Chairman, and was actively involved in establishing the company's strategic direction.

”Bob will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues in the hospitality industry,” said Antonio DiMilia, President and CEO of StayOnline.  “It was such a pleasure to work with him and an honor to have such an esteemed professional guiding our company’s development and growth.

“Bob made the significant leap from hospitality management to hospitality technology at a time in his life when most people are thinking about rocking chairs and mountain vistas.  He was an exceptional person, a great friend, and a inspirational mentor. My thoughts are with his wife Daughtry and his family in this sad time.”

A graduate of Georgia Tech, King completed additional post-graduate studies at Emory University. He was active in the American Hotel & Motel Association (now American Hotel & Lodging Association) and has served as both a Board member and Executive Committee member.

King’s body will be entombed on Monday, March 20 at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, St. Simons Island, GA at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 18 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Patterson's Spring Hill Chapel and one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Flowers are appreciated or donations in Bob's memory may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel 1020 Spring Street NW Atlanta, GA 30309, 404-876-1022.
