Columbia Sussex Completes Conversion of the 312 room
Wyndham Atlanta to a Full-Service Marriott Hotel
.
FT. MITCHELL, Ky. - Feb. 28, 2006 -- Columbia Sussex, owner, developer and operator of more than 95 hotels and casinos around the world, converts the Wyndham Atlanta to a Marriott hotel, announced President William Yung. The conversion of the Atlanta Marriott Downtown Hotel was completed at midnight on February 27, 2006.

The property was built in 1959, opened as the Americana Hotel in 1962, and owned by Marvin Goldstein, dentist to the children of Martin Luther King Jr., and became renowned as the first integrated hotel in downtown Atlanta. When advised by the city to build separate water fountains for Caucasians and African Americans, Goldstein decided not to build any at all. Remnants of segregation still exist as the current public restrooms are designated men's, women's and unisex. The property became a Wyndham Hotel in 1999.

"We are excited to continue a very productive relationship with Marriott Hotels and Resorts as Columbia Sussex, the largest franchisee of full-service Marriott hotels in the country, also owns the upscale Le Merigot Beach Hotel and Spa, a JW Marriott, in Santa Monica, Calif. and Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.," said Yung. "Whether guests come for business or leisure, the Atlanta Marriott Downtown will cater to every traveler by providing a more intimate and upscale feel amidst the hustle and bustle of downtown."

Located at the heart of the city, the Atlanta Marriott Downtown is within walking distance of the city's vibrant business and commercial districts. The nine-story hotel has 312 rooms, including 24 executive suites, two presidential suites and 16 meeting rooms to serve from 10 to 350 guests with more than 14,000 square feet of meeting space. WiFi access is available to guests in the lobby and meeting space areas. Accommodations include individual climate control, remote controlled cable/satellite TV with in-room pay movies, high-speed Internet access with two two-line telephones with dataport and voicemail, valet parking, a full-service business center as well as a Concierge level with a private lounge.

The Atlanta Marriott Downtown boasts its newly renamed restaurant, Bistro Americana Restaurant and Lounge, which offers upscale, casual cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests will enjoy the wine wall, big screen TVs and an exciting new menu for the restaurant as well as room service.

Ideal for business and social occasions the Atlanta Marriott Downtown offers comfort, convenience and warm Southern hospitality. The hotel is located at 160 Spring Street NW in Atlanta. For more information or reservations guests can visit www.Marriott.com or call (866) 316-5959.

The property is now owned and managed by Columbia Sussex Corporation which recently acquired 14 full-service hotels from Wyndham International, Inc., an affiliate of the Blackstone Group. The hotels acquired by Columbia Sussex contain more than 5,800 rooms and are located primarily in large urban markets, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Diego, Tampa, Toronto and Washington D.C.

Columbia Sussex Corporation is a private hotel owner and operator based in Fort Mitchell, Ky. The company, 100 percent owned by William J. Yung and his family, is one of the largest privately held hotel companies in the country.
