Pittsburgh City Center

PITTSBURGH -- Oct. 4, 2005 -- Doubletree(R) Hotels (NYSE:HLT) proudly announces that the Ramada(R) Plaza Suites has become the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center, representing another addition to the brand's portfolio of more than 150 fine properties across North America. A complete $12 million transformation of this 316-room hotel marks a great return for the Doubletree brand to Pittsburgh, where guests will be welcomed with the largest guestrooms in the city. Located between the U.S. Steel Plaza and Mellon Arena, this hotel is one of the closest facilities to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and features 13,500 square foot state of the art flexible meeting space.

The Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center is owned by The Elmhurst Group, managed by Prospera Hospitality Services and is operated under a franchise agreement with Doubletree Hotel Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hilton Hotels Corporation.

"Doubletree continues to make great strides in its current growth strategy, by aligning the brand with new hotel properties in key metropolitan areas that complement and enhance our brand's wide-ranging portfolio of upscale, full-service hotels and resorts," said Dave Horton, senior vice president - brand management for Doubletree. "We couldn't be prouder to return to the downtown Pittsburgh market with the reinvigorated hotel experience that has become the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center."

William E. Hunt, president of The Elmhurst Group, is putting the finishing touches on the extensive eight-month renovation project that has included substantial design and technology upgrades throughout the hotel.

"The Elmhurst Group has a strong commitment to the Greater Pittsburgh area," said Hunt. "We are delighted to mark the conclusion of an extraordinary renovation and hope that business and leisure travelers alike will discover that the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center has truly transformed into one of the best full-service hotel choices in the city."

Guests of the new Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center will notice several positive changes throughout the hotel, including:

  • All guest rooms, including the hotel's 112 one-bedroom suites, have been upgraded with warm, luxurious furnishings such as 27" televisions, new armoires and guestroom bathrooms that feature granite counter topped vanities, stone tiled floors and framed mirrors.
  • Wireless, High-Speed Internet Access throughout the facility, as well as a business center.
  • A newly designed lobby and entrance with a sleek, sophisticated sense of arrival.
  • The new Bigelow Grille, a contemporary American restaurant with a significant focus on regional product and traditional preparations with a Pittsburgh point of view.
"Beyond the completion of our renovation, this is truly an exciting time at our hotel for our guests. They now have the opportunity to reap the rewards of one of the best travel reward programs available today along with the warm welcome of a fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie that is distinctively Doubletree," said Bob Andrews, hotel general manager.

The Honorable Tom Murphy, mayor of Pittsburgh, and Joe McGrath, president of the Greater Pittsburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau, participated in the grand re-opening festivities for the hotel last Wednesday. A commemorative "double-tree" lighting ceremony was held to mark the brand's return to downtown Pittsburgh and to symbolize the hotel's continued "firm roots" in serving the Pittsburgh community.

"This project represents a substantial commitment to Pittsburgh's continued revitalization as a destination city," said Murphy. "We are pleased to celebrate the return of the Doubletree brand to our great city."

"The return of Doubletree will only enhance our ability to support our convention and tourism efforts," said McGrath. The Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh City Center is located 15 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport. The hotel's address is One Bigelow Square, Pittsburgh, Penn. 15219.
