St. Regis Hotel, Shanghai Named One of the
Best Companies to Work For in China

Shanghai, December 29, 2005 -  St. Regis Hotel, Shanghai was named “Best Companies to Work For – China” in WorkChina™ 2005 survey conducted jointly by Watson Wyatt Consultant Ltd.and Fortune China Magazine.  We were the only hotel in China winning the award under the category of “International Companies”.

There were about 100 companies that had participated in this survey.  Only the top 10 best local companies and the top 10 best International companies were selected for the “Best Companies to Work For” award. The survey covered various criteria related to employee commitment and the enabling factors such as compensation, performance management, and leadership. Based on the results of the survey, it showed that our employees are highly committed to the hotel and clearly understand the company strategy and culture.

“We are very pleased to be recognized as one of the “Best Companies to Work For” in China. This award is a testament to the success of our people-oriented management style and corporate culture “Starwood Cares – Caring For Associates, Caring For Guests and Caring For Business”.  We believe our employees are great assets to the company and one of the crucial factors to our success, ” said Mr. Charles Abbott, General Manager of St. Regis Hotel, Shanghai.

“Fostering employee commitment is one of the biggest challenges facing employers in China. The St. Regis Hotel, Shanghai, one of the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ from our survey, is famous for its high level Butler Service in a five-star environment.  But, what many people don't realize is that the company sees care for its employees as a foundation for its high level of customer service. After investigating St. Regis’ HR practices and analyzing their employee attitudes, we could see clearly that the hotel really cares about its employees, and this then translated into high levels of commitment from the staff.   The St. Regis understands well the vital link between HR practices, employee commitment and service to their customers,” said Jim Leininger, General Manager of Watson Wyatt Consultant Ltd-Beijing Branch.

Voted “No. 1 in Shanghai – T&L 500 World’s Best Hotels”, “ Top 10 World’s Best Hotel Values” and “ World’s Best 100 Hotels” by Travel + Leisure Magazine, St. Regis Hotel, Shanghai is centrally located in the heart of Shanghai’s business and financial district of Pudong and only minutes away from major sights and attractions.
