Benchmark Hospitality Assumes Management of Two Historic Long Island Properties -
Danfords on the Sound and Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina
The Woodlands (Houston), Texas, December 13, 2005 - Benchmark Hospitality International, which manages 28 award-winning resorts, conference centers and hotels in the United States and Japan, announced the addition of two historic Long Island, New York, properties yesterday: Danfords on the Sound, located in Port Jefferson, New York, and Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina of Montauk, New York.

"I would like to personally welcome both Danfords on the Sound and Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina and their employees into the Benchmark Hospitality family," said Burt Cabañas, founder, chairman & chief executive officer of Benchmark Hospitality International.  "Benchmark has a long-standing relationship with the owner of these two properties, and we are confident that we can work toward the long-term goals that have been established for both locations."

Danfords on the Sound and Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina are owned by affiliates of Oaktree Capital LLC (, a money management firm with headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

Danfords on the Sound

Danfords on the Sound is situated in the heart of historic Port Jefferson, New York, on the harbor off Long Island Sound.  Just one hour from Manhattan and with direct ferry access to Bridgeport, Connecticut, the elegant property features 86 guestrooms and suites, located in 14 charming lodge buildings.  The original building dates to the early 1800s and served a variety of uses before being converted into a lodge in 1986.  The property exudes a New England-style ambiance and is accented with exquisite antiques and accessories.

Danfords on the Sound features a New American-style restaurant, The American Bistro, which in addition to superb dining offers guests striking views of Long Island Sound.  The property provides after-hours activities in the Aqua Nightclub and Blue VIP Lounge.  A spa and salon are also available for the convenience and enjoyment of guests.

Several meeting and banquet rooms are available for corporate and social gatherings.  These include ten stately and beautifully appointed conference rooms, which can accommodate up to 200 guests and offer the most current meeting technology.  Complimentary WiFi access is also available to guests of the property.

Hearkening back to Port Jefferson's historic past -- in the 1800's four out of every ten ships in the New World were built here - the adjacent marina provides 75 slips and accommodates yachts up to 160 feet in length, enabling it to play host to several international yachts and tall ships throughout the summer season.

The marina provides waterfront dining at the Admirals Deck Restaurant & Lounge, a portion of which extends out over the harbor to enhance guests' nautical experience.  Charter fishing is also available at the marina in season.

Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina

Danfords' sister property, the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, is located 77 nautical miles further east on Long Island's South Fork in Montauk.  Situated along 22 acres of waterfront property, the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina offers 107 comfortably elegant guestrooms, featuring views of Lake Montauk, including 23 Villas.  Award-winning dining is provided in the Il Mare Ristorante, serving New World Italian Cuisine.  The resort also features the signature Lighthouse Bar and the newly renovated La Bella Vita Spa.

A variety of social and corporate groups can be comfortably accommodated at the Montauk Yacht Club Resort, which offers flexible event space, including ten elegant state-of-the-art rooms and a newly renovated ballroom.  For corporate groups looking to enhance team effectiveness, unique teambuilding fishing trips can be arranged.

Countless leisure activities are available to guests of the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, including beach volleyball, bocce ball, horseshoes, tennis, swimming in three pools, a fitness center, sunset cruises, waterfront lobster bakes and many more.  Golf is available nearby at one of the Top 50 courses in the United States, the Montauk Downs State Park.  The resort also provides guests with complimentary shuttle transportation into historic and charming Montauk, the eastern-most point of Long Island.

The 232-slip marina features newly renovated pilings, boardwalks and railings and full hook-ups, including phone, electric, water, cable TV, WiFi access and on-site amenities.  Craft capacity is 175+ feet and a maximum of a 12+ foot draft.  Casual waterfront dining is available at the Breeze's Cafe.  Like at the marina at Danfords on the Sound, charter fishing is available.

The historic Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina provides a graceful and refined emersion in the elegance of yesteryear, preserved and updated for today's living requirements.  For decades, the resort & marina has been a playground for those who frequent the shores of Long Island's South Fork East End.

The resort began in the 1920s when entrepreneur Carl Fisher, a master builder from Miami, constructed the original club and dug a deep channel between freshwater Lake Montauk and Gardiner's Bay, creating what was then the world's largest private harbor.  Fisher installed a 60-foot replica of the Montauk Lighthouse at the resort, which still exists and remains a signature focal point today.  It now houses corporate meeting rooms.

The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina's original membership included such storied names such as Astor, Ford, Whitney, Eastman, Wanamaker and Vanderbilt. Among the many guests was Charles Lindbergh, who often flew his seaplane into the harbor to dock at the marina.
