.

ATLANTA, Ga., December 20, 2005 Lodgian, Inc. (AMEX: LGN), one of the nations largest independent owners and operators of full-service hotels, today announced that it has converted the former 231-room Holiday Inn in Silver Spring, Md. to the Crowne Plaza brand, following an 11-month, $6 million complete make-over of the property.

The renovation of the16-story Crowne Plaza Washington, D.C.Silver Spring included extensive upgrades to its guestrooms, including installation of the Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage program and other brand amenities, mahogany furnishings, a rolling desk with task lighting and marble vanity tops in the bathrooms.  All public spaces, including meeting rooms, restaurant and lobby, also were upgraded, which included the installation of new lobby furnishings and carpeting and the addition of a new Internet café in the lobby serving Barnies coffee products.

Ed Rohling, Lodgians president and chief executive officer, noted that the timing was right for the conversion to the Crowne Plaza brand.  The city of Silver Spring is in the midst of a renaissance, with the addition of a large retail mall, a new headquarters for the Discovery Channel and other positive growth.  By upbranding to Crowne Plaza, we will be better able to meet the higher expectations of this market.  We also see Silver Spring as a growing business market and believe the Crowne Plaza brand will better attract higher-rated, group business looking for a first-class meeting venue.  Our goal is to be the leading hotel operator in this area.

Located at 8777 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, Md., off the Washington Beltway, eight miles from downtown Washington, D.C., the hotel is a short walking distance to the Metro subway line.  The property features a swimming pool, fitness facility, business center and the River City Grille and Lounge.

Meetings will play an important role in our business mix, said Samie Bazuzi, general manager.  With 16,000 square feet of meeting space, we can comfortably handle groups ranging from 20 up to 450.
