 Carlson Hotels Worldwide Names Doug Abbott
Vice President of Sales for the Americas Region

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Dec. 20, 2005) ---- Carlson Hotels Worldwide today announced that Doug Abbott has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Sales for the Americas region. In his new role, Abbott will be responsible for both developing and implementing sales strategies and leading the region's sales team for the company's brands, which include Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts®, Park Plazasm Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlsonsm and Park Inn®.  

Abbott reports directly to Fredrik Korallus, executive vice president of Revenue Generation for Carlson Hotels Worldwide-The Americas.  

"Abbot will play a key role in leading our sales organization in the implementation of strategies which drive business delivery to the locations of Carlson Hotels," said Korallus. "His industry experience and track record of success demonstrate that he can deliver increased market share and financial results through analysis, conversion and management of accounts, as well as building long-term business relationships.  Doug will be a major asset to our organization and all of our Carlson hotel brands." 

Abbott brings more than 18 years of hotel industry experience to Carlson, encompassing hotel sales and marketing, revenue management, electronic distribution and account development. He served most recently as Director of Sales Operations and Planning at InterContinental Hotels Group. In this position, he guided the company's annual sales process, budget development and strategic planning. He joined InterContinental in 2000 as Director of Travel Agency Sales & Marketing, in which managed accounts totaling more than $1 billion in sales.

In prior experience, Abbott served as Director of National Corporate Accounts at Bristol Hotels & Resorts in Dallas, after serving in various management positions with increasing levels of responsibility. 

Earlier in his career he worked for Cyntergy Corporation in Maryland as a Training and Installation Team Leader, and gained hotel-level management experience leading the front office teams at several hotels in Nashville, Tenn., and Lexington, Ky.

Abbott holds memberships in several professional associations, including the American Society of Travel Agents, the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, Hotel Electronic Distribution Network Association, the Hotel Sales & Marketing Association International and the National Business Travel Association. He attended Transylvania University in Lexington, and earned a Travel Agent Certification from Brookhaven College in Dallas. 

Minneapolis-based Carlson Hotels Worldwide, part of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, includes five hotel brands, totaling 915 hotels in 69 countries.
