Receives Extensive Renovation
.

BARBADOS (September 20, 2005) Elegant Hotels Group has announced an extensive renovation of Colony Club Hotel, its flagship Barbados property, enhancing facilities, interiors and surrounding landscape to reflect the resorts sophisticated yet vibrant tropical spirit.  The property officially reopens  October 3, 2005.

Set on Barbados legendary West Coast, in St. James parish, Colony Club is a world-class, colonial retreat featuring 96 guestrooms, private oceanfront access, two restaurants and bars, fitness center, beauty salon and duty-free boutiques.  The hotel is surrounded by tropical gardens, waterfalls and four lagoon-style swimming pools.

The new Colony Club allows guests to experience the Old-World charm and tranquility of a Caribbean getaway with all the comforts of a top-tier luxury resort, said Gayle Talma, general manager, Colony Club Hotel.  We have dramatically improved the property both structurally and aesthetically upgrading key furnishings, fixtures and technology while bringing fresh, new colors and textures to guestrooms, dining facilities and outdoor areas.

Elegant Upgrades Galore
Forty guestrooms in four categories have been upgraded; the Luxury Ocean View Suites, for example, have been completely transformed with all-new, custom crafted furnishings, and a total technology makeover has outfitted guestrooms with flat screen televisions, DVD players, cordless phones and high-speed Internet access.  Sumptuous new bathrooms now feature extensive marble surfaces, Jacuzzi tubs and separate showers, while mini-bars are now equipped with espresso machines and a special turn-down service has been introduced.  Other room categories with new enhancements include Ocean View, Luxury Poolside and Luxury Ocean View rooms.

Dining in Style
Colony Clubs restaurants and bars have also undergone an aesthetic refurbishment to enhance the ambience and elegance of their unique locations.  The Orchid Room, offering world-class cuisine with a Bajan accent, and the Laguna Restaurant, a more casual, open-air alternative offering pool-side dining, have been transformed with new  furnishings and color schemes.  The festive Sunset Bar continues to offer walk-up or swim-up waiter service, while the Planters Lounge provides a relaxed setting for cocktails and live entertainment; each bar has been graced with a fresh, new look.

Renovation Highlights
  • New color scheme in guestrooms; custom-crafted furnishings, televisions, artwork and mirrors
  • Luxury bedding with king-sized down pillows and plush mattress pads
  • New mini-bar areas in all guestrooms, some with espresso machines
  • Total bathroom redesign, state-of-the-art fixtures, marble tiling

Directed by leading interior designer Fay Parker, Colony Clubs new look incorporates signature Barbados colors throughout the property and its guestrooms, reflecting an elegant yet vibrant colonial flair.  A Barbadian herself, Parker is widely admired for her unique style and mastery of color, and consults a diverse regional and international clientele.

A Legacy of Luxury, Colonial Flair
Built as a sugarcane plantation home, Colony Club was purchased by shipping heiress Ann Embiricos, who ultimately developed the property in 1948 into a residential club and has since been credited as a pioneer of West Coast luxury hotel development in Barbados.  Long considered a Barbados landmark, Colony Club is today the flagship resort of the Elegant Hotels Group.

In addition to Colony Club, Elegant Hotels Group operates five luxury beachfront properties in Barbados, including The House, Tamarind Cove, Crystal Cove and Turtle Beach Resort.
