Jul. 26, 2005 - Hyatt Resorts has hired Michael Bastis and Norbert Relecker as general managers of its two Monterey County hotels.
Bastis will lead Hyatt Regency Monterey; Relecker will head Highlands Inn, Park Hyatt Carmel in Carmel Highlands.
The two replace Michael Koffler, who last month accepted a managerial position at Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.
Highlands Inn and Hyatt Regency Monterey are two key properties in local hospitality. The Monterey hotel, 1 Old Golf Course Road, features an 18-hole golf course, Knuckles sports bar and two restaurants. Its adjoining conference center is regularly booked for large conventions and community events.
South of Carmel on Highway 1, Highlands Inn is a popular location for ocean-view weddings and other events and features the award-winning Pacific's Edge restaurant.
Bastis joined Hyatt Hotels in 1982. He most recently was general manager of Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman Resort & Villas in Grand Cayman, West Indies. In Monterey, he will manage about 700 employees.
Relecker, who has been with the company since 1985, will supervise about 250 employees. He most recently was general manager at Hyatt West Houston. Before that, he was executive assistant manager and food and beverage director for Grand Hyatt New York.
Transferring to different properties as a way of climbing through the company is a tradition at Hyatt. The company owns more than 200 hotels and resorts worldwide. Nearly 30 properties, including 10 in China, are under development.
The company in January bought the AmeriSuites hotel chain, which added another 143 properties to its portfolio. Those will be unveiled in a rebranding campaign next year.
