COSTA MESA, California, USA --- 8 August 2005 - Hosts of the upcoming
16th annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) have announced
that Mr. P.R.S. Oberoi, chairman and CEO the Oberoi Groups flagship EIH
Limited, will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event, scheduled
for 12-14 October 2005 at the InterContinental Hong Kong.
In addition to providing leadership for the management of thirty hotels and five luxury cruisers across six countries, Oberoi serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in London and is the driving force behind the WTTCs India Initiative. The aim of the Initiative is to give travel and tourism its rightful importance in Indias economic development. In 2004, Oberoi was conferred a special award by Indias Department of Tourism for his contributions to the tourism sector. Recognising the importance of quality training in hospitality management, Oberoi established The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development in New Delhi, India in 1966. Today, this institution is considered to be among the best in Asia. Commenting on why Oberoi was selected to receive this prestigious award, HICAP co-host Robert Hecker of Horwath Asia Pacific said, This year marks the 50th anniversary of P.R.S. Oberoi's arrival back in India after his schooling and experience in Europe to spearhead the international expansion of the family hotel business and ultimately instill his own particular flair to the group's projects and image. Hecker added, It is appropriate and timely that HICAP recognizes and honors Mr. Oberoi's achievements over these 50 years, including the creation of some of the world's great hotels, particularly the more recent introduction of the truly unique and dramatic Oberoi Vilas properties in Rajasthan and Agra." Hosted by Burba Hotel Network (BHN), Horwath Asia Pacific and Sonnenblick-Goldman Company, HICAP is the preeminent hotel investment conference in the Asia Pacific region, which last year drew nearly 500 of Asias top hotel industry leaders. |
