SAN ANTONIO (August 1, 2005) –La Quinta Inn & Suites San Antonio Convention Center was named the Best New Hotel Development  as part of the San Antonio Business Journal’s Best in Commercial Real Estate Awards.  The 212,000 square-foot hotel, which offers 14 stories and 350 guest rooms, a 2,500 square-foot lobby and more than 8,000 square-feet of meeting space, occupies a central location near the River Walk and the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.   The hotel was designed and built in cooperation with gh2 Gralla Architects, LLC, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Bury+Partners Engineering Solutions, of San Antonio.

Alan Tallis,  La Quinta’s president of franchising  and  executive vice president and chief development officer, said, “This hotel is a testament to the vibrancy of the La Quinta brand and its appeal in downtown urban locations.” He concluded, “We are proud to accept this prestigious award, which recognizes not only the achievement of our development team, but the enduring wisdom of our founder Sam Barshop, who built the first and original La Quinta on this site.”

La Quinta Inn & Suites San Antonio Convention Center was built over a two-year period. It is one of the Company’s largest properties and is considered a flagship hotel. Its visibility in downtown San Antonio, along with its ability to compete in the competitive downtown market, make it a unique signature property for the La Quinta brand. The company is looking to develop additional high-profile projects in downtown locations such as Chicago, , Philadelphia, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City.
