at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii

.

Kohala Coast, Hawaiis Big Island (May 13, 2005) - Mr. Christof Luedi, Regional Vice President of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Hawaii Region, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ian Pullan as General Manager for the 540-room Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii resort.

Mr. Pullan brings more than 15 years of hospitality industry experience to his position. He most recently worked in Missouri as General Manager of The Fairmont Kansas City at the Plaza, the citys only Four Star, Four Diamond hotel.

The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii is an exceptional luxury resort that appeals to both the leisure traveler and the group market, not only because of our elegant, oceanfront offerings but because of the authentic spirit of aloha embodied by our staff, Mr. Pullan says.

Mr. Pullan was raised in Ireland (another small island in the middle of an ocean, he points out), began his career as a bellman at a small country inn, and received a diploma in Hotel Catering Management from Galway Hotel School. Mr. Pullan then joined the Hotel Conrad Dublin as Assistant Front of the House Manager in 1990, and in 1992 transferred to St. Martin, in the French West Indies, where he served as Front Office Manager for La Belle Creole, a Conrad hotel.

Mr. Pullan joined the Los Angeles Hilton & Towers as Director of Front Office Operations in 1994, then was appointed Director of Front Office Operations with Omni Los Angeles Hotel & Center (formerly the Los Angeles Hilton) in 1995. In 1996, he was promoted to Director of Rooms, then returned to Dublin, Ireland in 1998 as Deputy General Manager of Operations with Jurys Hotel & Towers. In 1999, Mr. Pullan island-hopped to Bermuda as Director of Operations for The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, and held that position until 2002 when he was appointed Hotel Manager for The Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. In 2003, Mr. Pullan was promoted to General Manager of The Fairmont Kansas City at the Plaza.

My first goal in Hawaii is to get a proper education in the local culture and help share the knowledge with guests, he said. Mr. Pullan was off to a fine start May 10, when Regional Vice President Mr. Christof Luedi introduced him to 500-plus staff members. Mr. Pullan took the stage sporting a traditional Hawaiian kihei (cape) and lei poo (a garland of fern worn around the head). He later danced hula, to the cheers and applause of delighted hotel colleagues. Mr. Pullan and his wife have two young daughters, who are thrilled with their new island home.

Protected by five sacred mountains, blessed by sunshine, seashore and sea turtles, The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii offers elegant accommodations and spacious meeting space amidst the natural beauty of the Big Island . The hotels Beachboy ambassadors introduce a mesmerizing culture of canoes, ocean and adventure, while dramatic black lava frames 36 holes of championship golf.
