Orient-Express Hotels Reopens La Residencia
on Mallroca after Extensive Refurbishments

.

NEW YORK, NY (February 8, 2005) - La Residencia, the idyllic hideaway in the north west of the Spanish island of Mallorca, celebrates its 21st anniversary this year and has just reopened its doors following a three-month closure. During this period, light refurbishment works throughout the property were carried out, including expansion to the bar area and the installation of a new elevator linking the main manor house to the pool, at an investment of nearly US$2 million.

The new elevator will take guests to the large pool area and a covered passageway will provide access to the Son Fony restaurant on the upper terraces, so dining guests need not walk through the sunbathing areas by the pool. La Residencias sweeping driveway has a new look on arrival with specially planted statuesque olive trees. The bar area has been enlarged and re-designed, with new furniture and fittings enhancing the relaxing ambience. WiFi service has also been installed at the property to allow easy internet access for guests.

Since Orient-Express Hotels acquired La Residencia in March 2003, the Mallorquin style country house hotel has undergone extensive refurbishments. Last year, the Son Fony restaurant was glassed over to create a light and airy dining area during the day and a star-studded ceiling at night. The Spa increased to six treatment rooms, including four outdoor facilities and the creation of three new suites with private pools and a new Tower Suite with stunning 360° views of Deià.

La Residencia first opened as a hotel in the Spring of 1984 when two 15th and 16th  Century manor houses were converted into a hotel with 15 rooms. Now, 21 years later, the 59-room hotel continues to flourish overlooking the charming village of Deià, home of many painters and writers including the English writer Robert Graves, who lived in this mountain village for 45 years. The hotel is set in 30 acres of landscaped gardens, terraces and orchards and framed by a backdrop of lofty mountain crags with a stunning panorama over the village towards the Mediterranean below.
