 Great Hotels Organisation Reports 15%
Increase in Hotel Membership During 2004

.

7 February 2005 - Great Hotels Organisation, which includes hotel consortia brands Great Hotels of the World and Special Hotels of the World has announced a 15% increase in hotel membership during 2004. The organisation reported figures rising from 226 hotel members in 2003 to 267 members in 2004.

Although Great Hotels Organisation has signed up 94 new member hotels during 2004, the percentage increase of 15% is as a result of the departure of some members following the recent implementation of strict new quality control measurements.

New destinations introduced to the group include two hotels in China, three hotels in Ukraine and one each in New Zealand and Serbia Montenegro. Europe continues to provide the majority of Great Hotels members with the entire Mediterranean region showing particular growth.

Great Hotels Organisation projects that total membership will continue to increase in 2005 at a similar rate. This will take membership levels to over 300 for the first time, with Eastern Europe showing a strong demand from properties looking to enter the international marketplace.

Peter Gould CEO, Great Hotels Organisation comments We are delighted with the positive growth of membership over 2004 and we are even more pleased to have achieved these results during a rigorous quality control campaign. Our overall focus is on the quality not quantity of our membership and maintaining quality standards is more important than rapid growth.

The Great Hotels Organisations family of brands include Great Hotels of the World (http://www.ghotw.com) and Special Hotels of the World (http://www.shotw.com).  By acknowledging that each hotel has a different set of marketing requirements, the Great Hotels Organisation allows its member hotels to choose from a comprehensive collection of sales and marketing initiatives in order to build their own à la carte membership programme tailored to meet their individual objectives.  By doing this, members are able to choose and purchase only the services they require, thus ensuring that membership fees are kept to a minimum and are focused on their specific requirements.  Sales and marketing initiatives that members are able to take advantage of include: trade shows, e-marketing, business travel consortia sales, public relations, a private label GDS chain code and sales blitzes. Membership of the Great Hotels Organisation is by invitation only and hotels must meet strict criteria before being accepted.
