Anthony G. Marshall, President of the Educational Institute
of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Honored
for his Lifelong Contributions to Hospitality Law

.

HOUSTON, Texas, February 4, 2005 Anthony G. Marshall, J.D., CHA, CHE, president of the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, was honored for his lifelong contributions to hospitality law at the third annual Hospitality Law Conference today in Houston, Texas.

The conference, hosted by HospitalityLawyer.com, in cooperation with the American Bar Association (Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section), the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, the Loss Prevention Institute, and AH&LAs General Counsel Committee, was held at the Hyatt Regency, Houston, Feb. 3 and 4, 2005.

Were honoring Tony for his pioneering and continuing contributions to the field of hospitality law, stated Stephen Barth, founder of HospitalityLaw.com. Through his writing, he was the first to bring hospitality law to the masses, so that operators could understand whats expected of them.  He was the first to define reasonable care in a way that the average hotel managerwho is not a lawyercould understand.

Marshall, a noted author, speaker, and former dean of the School of Hospitality Management at Florida International University in Miami, has written the popular column, At Your Risk, for the past 25 years in Hotel & Motel Management magazine. The point of the column, according to Marshall, is to take legalese and put it into a style that the industry will read, understand, enjoy, and, in the process, learn something.

Marshall combines stories ripped from the days news, engaging anecdotes, and a wry sense of humor to tackle such weighty risk management topics as responsible alcohol service, natural disasters, slip-and-fall incidents, post-9/11 security, food allergies, swimming pool safety, and emergency preparedness.  Along the way, readers have also picked up guest service pointers gleaned from Marshalls musings on his hotel pet peeves, including hotel laundry services, convenience surcharges, and amenities for aging travelers.

HospitalityLawyer.com also recognized Hotel & Motel Management magazine for its role in bringing Marshalls column to hoteliers everywhere.

Barth stated that the Anthony G. Marshall Award will be presented annually by HospitalityLawyer.com to individuals who exemplify the commitment to hospitality law demonstrated by Marshall, its first recipient.

Established in 1953 as a nonprofit educational foundation of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Educational Institute is the premier source for quality hospitality education, training, and professional certification, serving the needs and advancing the excellence of hospitality schools and industries worldwide.
