 Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. Two Atlantic City Hotel-casinos Operating Under Contingency Plans After
Union Members Walkout

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 1, 2004 - Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET) said its two Atlantic City hotel-casinos will remain open while the company continues negotiating with leaders of a union local whose members began a walkout early today.

Both Harrah's Atlantic City and the Showboat have implemented contingency plans to ensure all customers' expectations are met during the walkout.

"We want to assure our Atlantic City customers that we will continue to deliver the high-quality customer service and casino-entertainment experience they've come to expect from Harrah's," said Jan Jones, senior vice president of communications and government affairs for Harrah's Entertainment.

"We are also concerned about the well-being of our employees during this difficult time, and will continue to pursue good-faith negotiations with union leaders to facilitate a quick return to work for our union team members," Jones said. "As a company, we fully support the superior health benefits, pension and severance fund increases and wage gains we've offered in our proposed contract, and hope for an amicable, timely resolution."
