16 Best Western Hoteliers; Danny Lafayette Receives the Best Western Legacy Award |

October 18, 2004 - Best Western International proudly announces the
45 hotels and 16 employees who received distinguished awards at the lodging
chain's 2004 North American convention in Charlotte, North Carolina today.
The hotel and employee recipients were honored in front of 3,000 industry
peers.
Five award categories were recognized by the company: Best of the Best, Best of the Best - Design, PR INNFluence, Wow!, and Legacy. Best of the Best Award Winners Best Western Bayshore Inn, Eureka, California
Best of the Best Honorable Mention Best Western Las Brisas Hotel, Palm Springs, California
The fourth annual Best of the Best awards formally recognize Best Western hoteliers who demonstrate exceptional levels of quality, service, and value. These recipients were chosen by Best Western International's Board of Directors. The decision was based on strict criteria including two quality assurance reviews conducted during the year in which the property received two perfect scores of 1,000. Recipients receiving an honorable mention received a perfect score on one inspection and a 975 on the second inspection. This award is open to all Best Western hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. "The increased number and quality of award winners this year reflects
our efforts to improve quality and design and to become the preferred brand
for our owners and guests," said Nayan Patel, Best Western International
chairman of the board.
Best of the Best - Design Award Winners Best Western Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach, Cambria, California
Best of the Best - Design Honorable Mention Best Western Blue Sea Lodge, San Diego, California The Best of the Best - Design awards recognize properties that have
undergone renovation or new construction within the past two years. These
winning properties received the highest scores based on the American Society
of Interior Designers (ASID) criteria. Properties were judged by a panel
of professional members from ASID and the American Institute of Architects
and included such criteria as scale and proportion, color and composition,
creative use of space, effective use of lighting, custom design and architectural
design.
PR INNFluence Award Winners Best Western Frontier Motor Inn, Clinton, Iowa
The third annual PR INNFluence awards recognize outstanding communication
strategy and creativity in local hotel marketing and/or public relations.
Entries were considered from the following areas: community relations,
special events, public affairs, crisis communications, media relations,
brochures/special publications, overall marketing campaign, Online marketing
and direct mail/direct response. These recipients were chosen by a committee
of public relations experts.
Wow! Individual Award Winners Chivaun Clark, Best Western Peppertree Inn, Santa Barbara, California
Wow! Team Award Winner Best Western Westfield Inn, Westfield, New Jersey The Wow! Awards are presented to individuals and teams who display exceptional
customer service on a regular basis. Individual winners are nominated by
their hotel management for the award. The Best Western International Board
of Directors selected this year's winning individuals and team.
Legacy Award Winner Danny Lafayette, Bangor, Maine The second annual Legacy award honors a family who operates a Best Western hotel and represents the positive family and community spirit of Best Western. Chairman of the Board Nayan Patel selected Danny Lafayette from Bangor, Maine as this year's recipient. "Danny Lafayette and his family reflect the heart of Best Western. They demonstrate Best Western's core values day in and day out by exemplifying entrepreneurial spirit, and supporting their family, community and colleagues," said Nayan Patel, Best Western International chairman of the board. Mr. Lafayette operates four hotels under the Best Western Brand. They are as follows: Best Western White House Inn, Bangor, Maine
