Case Study - Scottsdale Plaza Resort

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort is warm and inviting. While palms and golf greens grace the stunning red-rock desert backdrop, turquoise pools sparkle inside flower-adorned courtyards. The resort provides an inviting desert oasis with Southwest-style luxury.

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort sits on 40 beautifully landscaped acres in the shadow of Arizona�s famed Camelback Mountain. It offers 404 guestrooms, including 180 elegantly remodeled suites, as well as banquet halls, meeting centers, five restaurants, and a retail shop.
 

The Situation 

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort wanted to leverage technology as a vehicle to deliver better service and convenience to its guests. They realized that ongoing success would require a keen awareness of business performance and product management throughout the diverse mix of food and beverage outlets.

Finding the Right Solution 

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort needed a POS solution that would satisfy their immediate operational and reporting needs, as well as one that would grow with the resort into the future. After numerous demonstrations of various POS systems, they selected Revelation from InfoGenesis.

Mobile POS

As part of a total POS solution, the Scottsdale Plaza Resort employs handheld terminals to deliver exceptional guest convenience poolside. The InfoGenesis technology gateway allows the handhelds to interact in real time with the rest of the POS solution. Through the handheld, a server sends orders directly from a poolside table or seat to Revelation via a wireless network connection. When it�s time to pay, a credit card can be swiped and processed right at the table�increasing the customer�s security and saving even more time. The handheld also provides the server with instant menu information. This eliminates the need for memorization and reduces long training times. All this increased efficiency has led to greater guest convenience and satisfaction, as well as increased revenue. 

Offline Capabilities

Stability and reliability was achieved at standard POS locations in the resort�s food and beverage operations with IBM�s SurePOSTM 500 terminals. In the event that a terminal loses its network connection, it can still operate in a stand-alone manner, ensuring that customers are never inconvenienced by a loss of network connectivity. The outlet�s data remains safe and secure while the connection is being reestablished.

Comparative Reporting

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort utilizes comparative reporting from InfoGenesis, which allows the creation of reports that contain information from several stores and/or date periods. This type of reporting displays side-by-side comparisons of one or more stores within an enterprise. The reports and graphs can be automatically created, illustrating trends in the data. This real-time capability helps the management team to quickly react to issues and target areas for margin improvement. 

Hot Keys

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort has implemented InfoGenesis Hot Keys as well. Hot Keys allow users to jump from Revelation straight into another application. The Scottsdale Plaza Resort is making creative use of this feature by launching a website where staff can look up driving directions and recipes for guests. The information requested, such as directions to a local golf course or the recipe for that evening�s soup, prints directly to the terminal�s receipt printer. This makes providing pertinent information to guests easy and convenient, and has produced marked improvement in guest satisfaction.

Gift and Loyalty Cards

The ease of use inherent in their InfoGenesis technology solution makes it easy for the Scottsdale Plaza Resort to roll out new customer service programs. For instance, the resort now offers gift cards as promotional marketing tools, as well as loyalty cards for frequent diners at Remington�s, their signature restaurant. 

Because the gift card program was implemented directly in the InfoGenesis solution, the resort pays no transaction fees, which are common with many gift card providers. These gift cards have led to happier customers�the kind that comes back and consistently increases resort revenue.
