Kendall College Partners With Les Roches Hospitality Management School of Switzerland; Chicago Campus Will Offer
Four-year Hospitality Program Bachelor's Degree
.
CHICAGO, July 22, 2004 - Kendall College and Les Roches Hospitality Management School today announced a new partnership to bring Les Roches' industry-leading International Hospitality Management program to Kendall in Chicago.  The new bachelor's degree program will be offered starting in September 2004, when Kendall College moves to its new state-of-the-art campus in downtown Chicago.

The association between Les Roches, one of the world's premier hospitality schools, and Kendall, one of the top culinary schools in the United States, will give Kendall students access to a global platform of courses, programs and expert faculty.  The new hospitality program will offer a four-year bachelor's degree, based on the Les Roches curricula, including specialized programs in International Hotel Management, Meetings and Convention Management and Food and Beverage Management.  The program will allow Kendall students to study abroad at Les Roches campuses in Bluche, Switzerland and Marbella, Spain, and give Les Roches students the opportunity to complete some of their studies with Kendall in Chicago.  Over time, additional degrees and programs that complement Kendall's outstanding culinary programs will be developed.

The relationship between the two schools means Kendall will become the first U.S. school to offer the well-known Les Roches program.

"It is a great honor to be working with Les Roches and Laureate Education to bring this coveted program to Chicago, and a real testament to Kendall's status as a premier culinary and hospitality college," said Kendall College President Howard A. Tullman.  "Not only will our students benefit from Les Roches' outstanding faculty, programs and foreign campuses, Chicago's tourism and hospitality industry will gain tremendous resources from this partnership as well."

Founded in 1979, Les Roches is considered to be among the finest hotel management schools in the world. Les Roches graduates are sought out by the world's top hotels and restaurants, and occupy some of the most influential positions in the hospitality industry.  Les Roches is part of Baltimore-based Laureate Education, Inc., whose Hospitality Group operates two of the sector's best-known educational institutions - Les Roches and Glion Hotel Management School - serving nearly 3,000 students at four campus locations in Switzerland, Spain and China.  Laureate's Hospitality Group, in turn, is part of the company's international network of accredited campus-based and online universities, with a total student enrollment of more than 130,000.

"As one of the top three culinary schools in the United States, and with its own great hospitality program, Kendall College is a perfect fit for Les Roches," said Laureate President Raph Appadoo.  "Chicago -- a top international leisure and business travel destination -- is an excellent location for the first U.S. Les Roches program.  We are delighted to welcome Kendall as a participant in the worldwide network of Laureate schools."

Kendall College is known for its career-oriented approach to culinary and hospitality education -- preparing graduates for top creative and management positions in restaurants, hotels and resorts worldwide.

"Kendall College has long been one of the country's finest culinary schools -- indeed, one that is supported by The Chaine Foundation's 'Chaine Scholars Program.'  Its new alliance with Les Roches establishes Kendall as one of the global leaders in culinary education," commented David A. Wilson, Bailli Delegue des Etats-Unis (U.S. president) of the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs and a member of the Laureate Education, Inc. board of directors.  The Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs is the oldest and one of the most famous gastronomic societies in the world, with 21,000 members worldwide.

Added Wolf Hengst, president of worldwide hotel operations at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and another member of Laureate's corporate board, "With demand for qualified staff growing every day, and with management shortages anticipated in U.S. hotel and foodservice establishments, I am confident the Kendall-Les Roches partnership will help create a new generation of leaders well-prepared to tackle the challenges of this global industry.  It will bring to the United States an approach to hospitality management which combines the traditions of Swiss service with a modern American flair."
