Expotel Hospitality Services, L.L.C., a Hotel Management Company with 12 Hotels, Defines Core Values

.

New Orleans LA (July 27, 2004) -- As a small but rapidly growing hotel management company, Expotel Hospitality Services, L.L.C. looks forward to moving to the next step. Their recent company-wide conference, where associates from all levels and all 12 hotels gathered to consolidate their individual goals and professional aspirations in one united vision, has them all headed in the same direction.

The conference, under the banner Shared Vision/Shared Values, brought together representatives from the company's owners, the corporate staff, General Managers and Directors of Sales from all of Expotel's properties, along with delegates from each hotel representing the front and back of the house associates. To represent the broadest range of participation, the General Manager at each hotel was asked to select hourly associates and supervisors to attend based on their ability to represent their departments as well as their counterparts across the company, their commitment to their roles at their hotels, their tenure and their willingness to speak their minds. These associates formed 40 percent of the team responsible for drafting Expotel's Core Values.

As Jeff Iavarone, Expotel Hospitality Services, L.L.C. Vice President of Marketing who organized the conference with Vice President of Operations, Mark Kucera,  noted, All companies should have a value system. That's much more important than a slogan or 'mission statement.' Internally, we described our company as 'good people, good product' and  wanted the vision we developed as to who we are, what we are and how we approach the daily business of our company to come not from me or the corporate staff, but from the heart of our managers and associates.

In his welcome letter to the conference, held at the company's historic Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans, Iavarone said, Our Values will be a testament to our vision. It is our journey to realizing our vision. Values are our testament to how we approach business, our associates, the culture as we define it, and how we live it within Expotel and other future business endeavors.  You will play an essential role related to our vision and values. Without your participation and thoughts, a company only lives by a slogan, a mission statement, or the thoughts of one individual. With a vision and values created by you, and your associates from various levels in our organization, we can move forward as one higher and higher. What we accomplish here this week is only the beginning.

The working sessions divided the group into smaller teams of 6-7, separating associates from the same property in order to encourage frank discussion and the percolation of ideas and commonalities throughout the group. First we focused on what's good about our company and our hotels, said Iavarone. After sharing those observations with the whole group, we honed in on the common good and our common opportunities.   Many more small group discussions followed as we asked ourselves 'what do we want to be to ourselves as associates, to our guests, to our owners and future owners and to the communitiews we live and work in.'

In the follow-up to the conference, many of the participants wrote that this process was itself one of the best things the company has ever done. While the new Expotel Core Values might seem basic, we know the entire company embraces them as our own, thanks to the approach we took, said Iavarone. Now each of the hotel's is planning a 'Wow!' event that reflects that same intense experience, to introduce them to our entire associate population.

The Expotel Core Values are these:

The following values are designed to mutually benefit our guests, associates, business partners, owners and community.

Respect - Create an environment of respect at all levels, fostering teamwork to achieve shared goals.

Communication - Create an environment of open, honest, direct and timely communication at all times.

Recognition - Create an environment where recognition and celebration are provided for the attainment of all shared goals.

Balance - Create an environment through a balanced approach combining people, product and profit to achieve a path of prosperity.

Excellence - Create an environment inspiring the unrelenting pursuit of excellence.

Do the Right Thing - Create an environment where right takes precedence over easy.

In the roll-outs to each hotel, associates will be selected to personify the core values. The language will be adopted for emphasis at hotel-wide meetings and in laminated wallet cards for each associate. Slogans and mission statements are often irrelevant to the goals and opportunities a company faces, commented Iavarone, who brought six years of award-winning Training experience to the organization of his First Expotel Hospitality Services L.L.C. Conference. This meeting was a catalyst, to define who we are and what we will become, with the broadest range of participation.

Headquartered in New Orleans, Expotel Hospitality Services, L.L.C. is a hotel management company with 12 hotels (9 owned and managed, 3 managed) operating under Hilton, Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Doubletree and Best Western flags as well as the historic Pontchartrain Hotel.
