Charlie Gray, GM of the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown,
Named The Innkeeper of the Year by the
New Mexico Lodging Association

.

SAN FRANCISCO  -   Charlie Gray, general manager of the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown, is the latest example of Stanford Hotel executives earning industry accolades.  He recently was named The Innkeeper of the Year from the New Mexico Lodging Association, which represents hundreds of hotels throughout the nation's fifth largest state.

"We tip our hats to Charlie for this outstanding achievement.  He is well-deserving of this prestigious award and we applaud his overall and ongoing excellence," said Clyde E. Guinn, Senior Vice President of Operations for the San Francisco-based Stanford Hotels Corp. that develops, owns and manages full-service hotels throughout the U.S.

Guinn and the award's judges concur that Gray's commitment to the lodging industry, in general, and the prosperous Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown property, in particular, is note-worthy and nearly

unprecedented.

With more than 30 years in the hotel industry in top-performing markets from Phoenix and Tucson to Chicago, Boston and San Francisco, Guinn describes him as the "quintessential hotel manager."

"His leadership skills and broad range of management experiences make him an integral and indispensable member of our esteemed executive team," said Guinn, whose company currently manages 17 properties.

Gray, who says this new title as New Mexico's Innkeeper of the Year is a "thrilling tribute, " has served in key management positions for such top-ranking hotel companies as Hilton, Marriott and Radisson.

In his current position with Stanford Hotel Corp., he oversees operations of the 294-room Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel, which is located in the vibrant business district just minutes for the city's famous Old Town, as well as the University of New Mexico.

Active in numerous civic and industry-related activities and associations, Gray is on the board of the New Mexico Lodging Association, Albuquerque Innkeepers Group, and Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In addition, Gray  --   an Arizona State University graduate who has taught hotel hospitality courses at the community college level - currently is assisting in efforts to establish a Hotel School at the University of New Mexico.

According to the New Mexico Lodging Association's awards judges, who honored Gray earlier this summer at its annual event, Gray exemplifies today's top achieving professional who is dedicated not only to achieving prescribed business goals but also to promoting the highest standards and overarching objectives of the hospitality and lodging industry.

Describing it as very personally rewarding, he said "It is excited to be working in a market like Albuquerque that is undergoing an incredible renaissance and achieving pre-9/11 business, group and transient occupancy rates."

Mirroring the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau theme of "It's A Trip," Gray said he's been lucky to have such an enriching and rewarding career that has been a "great trip." And, he noted, there's lots more road he has yet to cover.

The Stanford Hotels Corporation specializes in the development, ownership and management of full-service hotels partnering with a variety of franchise brands.  From its corporate offices in San Francisco, Stanford Hotels manages 17 full-service properties across six time zones throughout the U.S.  Stanford Hotels currently partners with six top global brands for its hotel properties, including Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Radisson and Doubletree.
