SAN DIEGO - August 2, 2004 - Stanford Hotels Corporation announced today that its downtown San Diego property has officially been named the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter. The hotel is in the midst of a $40 million reconstruction and will operate as a Marriott franchise.

Opening December 2004 just across the street from the new Major League Ballpark, Petco Park, the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter hotel is undergoing a complete reconstruction of its exterior and interior, including the lobby, guestrooms, restaurants, and meeting space.

"Our property offers guests desiring an intimate, quaint, unique experience of a boutique hotel, supported by the incredible strength and personalized service for which the Marriott brand is so well known," stated the hotel's General Manager Jim

"We're very proud to partner with Stanford Hotels to create a full-service hotel to complement the energy of downtown San Diego," said Ray Warren, San Diego Area Manager for Marriott.  "This is an exciting new property that offers business and leisure travelers easy access to everything this wonderful city has to offer."

Located at the gateway between the popular East Village and historic Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, the 306-room Marriott Gaslamp Quarter will open in an area that is experiencing tremendous growth in the hospitality, residential and commercial sectors and within short walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center.
The distinctive 22-story hotel tower will receive a contemporary finish that will transform it into a prominent symbol of downtown San Diego's skyline. Two centerpieces of the hotel will be the rooftop bar Aria - soaring 22 stories above the Petco Park and downtown skyline, and Soleil - a stylish restaurant featuring Napa Valley Mediterranean cuisine with a relaxed contemporary atmosphere.

Guest rooms are handsomely appointed and feature down-filled duvet and pillows. Other in-room amenities include two-line telephones with data ports and voice mail, high-speed and wireless Internet access, 27-inch flat screen TV, plush down comforters and custom duvet covers, butter soft 250-thread count single pick bed linens, pillow top mattresses, spa-like 17-pound terry towels, and Gilchrist & Soames spa bath amenities. The property also offers a concierge level with upgraded amenities, bathrobes and a concierge lounge serving daily continental breakfast and cocktails.

The Marriott Gaslamp Quarter offers 8,000 square feet of intimate, multi-purpose meeting space. For larger functions, the hotel features two ballrooms, ideal for banquets and corporate or social events of up to 300 guests. High-speed, wireless Internet access is available in all meeting rooms and public areas throughout the hotel.  Comprehensive audiovisual services and a 24-hour business center are also available to meet guests' needs.

"Marriott and Stanford Hotels are both top-notch companies that have created an impressive new property," said Durbin. "We're delighted to be a part of the Marriott family of hotels, and we look forward to welcoming our guests and introducing them to this beautiful new experience."
