.

SAN DIEGO -- May 25, 2004 - Signaling an increased focus on San Diego, Stanford Hotels has announced the appointment of Jim Durbin as the general manager of its downtown San Diego hotel property.

Durbin will be responsible for the hotels successful opening following a yearlong, $38 million renovation to be completed in December.

Durbin has been a leader in the San Diego hospitality industry for more than 30 years. In this time, he has served as founding director of the San Diego Convention Center, executive committee member of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau, president of the San Diego Hotel Association, and a member of the Governors Council on Tourism under former Governor Pete Wilson. In addition, Durbin was awarded San Diegos Hotel Man of the Year in 1988.

As president and CEO of Great Pacific Hotels, he has owned and operated several hotels throughout San Diego including Humphreys Half Moon Inn and Restaurants. There, together with Larry Gardener, he created Concerts by the Bay which is recognized as one of the top venues for outdoor concerts in the country.

Jim is an innovator in this business, and knows how to turn a good hotel into a great destination, said Clyde Guinn, senior vice president of operations for Stanford Hotels. Were not just introducing the average hotel later this year. Stanford Hotels is launching a premier destination for business and leisure travelers and local San Diegans.

Durbin noted his reasons for joining Stanford Hotels and getting back to the hands-on operation of hotels was the excitement and challenge that this project presents.

The Stanford Hotels team is top-notch, and they bring unique perspective and energy to the operation of the hotel at every level said Durbin. Downtown San Diego is an exciting place to be right now, and this hotel will only add to the excitement.

I am really impressed with the work Kim McCarthy and Jeff Burg have done to ready the hotel for its renovation and continue to manage the property while its been closed. The entire Stanford Hotels team has executed a stand-out job.

The core team at the San Diego Hotel Company (SDHC) consists of Jeff Burg, director of operations, and Kim McCarthy, director of sales and marketing. Burg is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day hotel operations, while McCarthy, a long-time San Diegan, is responsible for attracting meetings and conventions to the hotel.
