AMResorts® Investing $4 million in the Former Oasis
Puerto Aventuras, Will be Reconceptualized as the
Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras Riviera Maya


PHILADELPHIA   June 21, 2004    AMResorts, with 11 resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico by the close of 2004 under the Secrets® Resorts & Spas, Dreams® Resorts & Spas, and Sunscape® Resorts & Spas brand, announces the addition of Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras Riviera Maya in December 2004. With two additional properties slated to open this summer, and two in Fall 2004, Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras Riviera Maya will mark the 11th property overall in the AMResorts company portfolio.

In order to bring the resort up to the standards that are associated with the Sunscape® Resorts & Spas brand, the resort will be closed until December 1, 2004. It will reopen in December as the five-star Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras Riviera Maya. 

Plans call for a complete renovation, with an investment of more than $4 million USD. The resort will be completely re-conceptualized, with a new swimming pool with swim up pool bar, total remodeling of all rooms, additional restaurants and bars, sports, entertainment and activities venues, a spa and fitness center, a Sunscape® Explorers Club for kids and teens and much more. 

The Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras is set amidst the beauty and mystery of the Mayan coast, on a private beach in the marina community of Puerto Aventuras, just 10 minutes south of Playa del Carmen and minutes north of the Mayan ruins of Xcaret and Tulum. Puerto Aventuras features a 27-hole golf course (just minutes from the resort) and an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and clubs. Sunscape® Puerto Aventuras rests upon a beautiful white-sand beach situated in a secluded cove. In a rocky area of the beach, the hotel has excavated a natural pool fed by sea water. 

The hotel's spacious guestrooms offer balcony or terraces, and 65% of the rooms offer views of the sparkling blue Caribbean Sea, while others offer views of the nearby marina. Guestrooms are finely decorated in soothing colors and marble floors and include air conditioning, ceiling fans, full bathroom, hairdryer, cable TV, direct telephone, in room safe, daily refreshed mini-bar with beer, soft drinks and water, coffee makers, iron & ironing board and terrace or patio. 

A host of amenities is available for guests. Five restaurants offer a variety including a main restaurant offer buffet style creations, with weekly theme nights and three a-la-carte restaurants serving Asian specialties, Italian cuisine and grilled favorites. Additional amenities include: drink service at the pool and beach, four bars including swim up and night club, weekly managers' cocktail party, three swimming pools (one for children), gardens with sun beds and sunshades, towel service for the pool and beach, daily entertainment with a variety of both land and water activities, fully supervised children activities The resort also offers a fitness center, a PADI dive center, and a water activities hut. The reefs that sit 100 yards from the beach are highly rated among divers and snorkelers. A full-service marina is nearby. The hotel also offers tropically landscaped synthetic grass tennis courts and a championship 9-hole golf course. Weddings and vow renewals are available.
