Ric Leutwyler Promoted to Best Western
SVP Brand Quality and Member Service
PHOENIX, Mar. 1, 2004— Best Western president and CEO, Tom Higgins has announced a management realignment to reflect the resignation of Anupam Narayan, senior vice president Global Brand Management and CFO.

Ric Leutwyler has been promoted to senior vice president, Brand Quality and Member Service. He will retain his current responsibilities leading Best Western’s e-Commerce and Field Marketing efforts. Reporting to Leutwyler will also be member operations support, member services and procurement. The finance and accounting departments will report directly to Higgins.

Prior to his promotion, Leutwyler, who has been with Best Western for two years, was vice president of e-Commerce and Field Marketing. Before joining Best Western, he was with Trilegiant Corporation where he was executive vice president and general manager. And prior to that, he was with Cendant Corporation for eight years in various executive management capacities in the direct marketing and travel divisions. Leutwyler began his career in 1983 with AT&T.

“In addition to his proven e-commerce track record, Ric brings to Best Western a wealth of knowledge in sales and marketing, business development, operations, financial management and travel industry experience,” said Higgins.

Anupam Narayan announced his resignation Wednesday so he can pursue other opportunities within the industry, but will stay on until March 31 to help facilitate a smooth transition.

“Anupam was instrumental in the organization’s financial turnaround five years ago when he joined Best Western and has built its reputation as a brand with one of the lowest fee structures in the lodging industry,” said Higgins. “A true professional, he has made many friends both here and in the industry over the years. We will miss him and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.”
