Sol Melia Invests $140 million in New
Paradisus Resort, Puerto Rico

Thursday, 29th. January, 2004. Coinciding with the celebration of FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid, Sol Meliá has announced the scheduled opening in March, 2004, of its first hotel in Puerto Rico. The new hotel will make it 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries in which the hotel company operates 80 hotels, also making it the leading hotel chain in the region.

After an investment by Sol Meliá of 140 million dollars in its construction, the luxury facilities and magnificent location of the new Paradisus Puerto Rico make it one of the most exceptional hotels in the whole of the Caribbean. After its inauguration, the Paradisus Puerto Rico will immediately enter the exclusive club of �The Leading Hotels of the World�, a club to which a further 7 Sol Meliá hotels already belong.

The opening of the first hotel in Puerto Rico fulfils a double objective for the company: firstly, to offer a new destination in the Caribbean to European customers, and secondly, to provide an alternative to customers in one of the most attractive markets in world travel: the United States. The hotel provides superior facilities for both business and leisure travellers from each of these important markets.
