First-of-its-kind Newly Built Motel 6 Combines
Traditional Motel Rooms and Studio Rooms
DALLAS, October 14, 2003 - Construction has begun on the new Motel 6 located on U.S. 77/83 Expressway in Brownsville.  Replacing the structure damaged by fire earlier this year, this will be a first-of-its-kind newly built motel offering traditional motel rooms and studio rooms. The new three-story design will also feature guest conveniences that include a covered entrance, elevator and room entrances from an interior hallway.

"This is the first new construction project for Motel 6 featuring the design that combines traditional motel rooms and studio rooms," said Mike Brower, senior vice president of operations for Motel 6-Studio 6.

"Developed to meet the needs of both the economy and extended-stay guest, the new design's enhanced exterior also gives the motel a sleeker, more modern appearance."

Projected to open in the summer of 2004, the property will feature 158 guest rooms, 62 of which will be studio rooms and 96 traditional Motel 6 rooms. Guests will enjoy a pool, guest laundry, and expanded TV channel selections, as well as traditional Motel 6 amenities including phones with data ports and voicemail.   This uniquely designed property also features a state-of-the-art heating and cooling system, which includes the Smart energy management system.  This system conserves energy while at the same time ensuring the guest is always comfortable.

The extended stay rooms are geared toward travelers staying five nights or longer and offer affordable weekly and nightly rates.  These rooms feature a new furniture package, 25" television, full-length mirrored closet doors, and expanded eating area and work center.  Larger than the traditional motel rooms, each studio room is 280-360 square feet with tile or wood flooring and granite counters.  The room kitchens include a microwave, refrigerator, stovetop and all cooking and eating utensils.

The new Motel 6 -Brownsville will be three miles north of downtown, four miles from the Brownsville-Matamoras Bridge and the University of Texas at Brownsville.  The new property will offer easy access to many restaurants and local shopping areas.
