Starwood Hotels Names Robert F. Cotter
President and Chief Operating Officer
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.- Nov. 10, 2003 -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) announced today that the company's Board of Directors and Barry S. Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO, have named Robert F. Cotter President and Chief Operating Officer. He was formerly Chief Operating Officer for the company since 2000. Mr. Cotter will remain responsible for the company's hotel and timeshare operations.

Before being named COO, Mr. Cotter served as President, International Operations, a post he was named to in December 1999, after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer, Europe, a position he held since 1994. Prior to that role, he served as Senior Vice President and President of the company's Asia-Pacific Division, based in Hong Kong.

Mr. Cotter joined Sheraton in 1973 and held numerous sales and marketing positions, including Area Director of Marketing for the company's hotels in Hawaii (1980 - 1982); Vice President, Director of Advertising for the then Hawaii, Japan & Far East Division (1983-1985) and Senior Vice President, Director of Marketing for the Hawaii-Japan Division based in Honolulu (1985-1988). While based in Honolulu, Mr. Cotter also served as President of the Waikiki Beach Operators Association.

In 1988, Mr. Cotter was named Director of Hotel Marketing for Sheraton, and he was elected Vice President a year later. In June 1991, he was elected Senior Vice President, Direct Marketing and Product Management and in March 1993, Mr. Cotter was appointed to Executive Vice President, Direct Marketing and Product Management.

In 1992, Business Travel News named Mr. Cotter one of the 25 most influential executives in the travel industry. For three consecutive years, Irish America Magazine has named Mr. Cotter one of the top 100 Irish American executives in corporate America. He serves on the Marketing Committee of the American Hotel & Motel Association and is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Travel Agents. Mr. Cotter is a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston College. He served as Chairman and Managing Director, Ciga SpA and was part of the Board of Directors of Ciga SpA in Milan, Italy.

A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Mr. Cotter graduated from Boston College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He is married and has three children.
