Onity Presents New Senerlink Wireless
Energy Management System
Battery operated, RF wireless EMS brings 25-35% savings opportunity to even more properties

New York Nov. 10, 2003 Onity / Senercomm®, the leading global provider of electronic control solutions for the lodging industry, is introducing a landmark new energy-management devicethe SensorStat® DDC with Senerlink here at the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show. The new thermostat control is a wireless radio frequency- (RF) controlled unit which combines Onitys reliable SensorStat® energy management system with the revolutionary new SenerlinkTM wireless device-to-device network platform.  RF wireless makes it possible to provide the SensorStat® energy management system to hotels where access was previously not possible or cost prohibitive.

"We are extremely excited about rolling out this revolutionary new energy management product at the hotel industrys most important event," said Pascal Metivier, Atlanta-based Onity's Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing.

"Onity / Senercomm® has always spearheaded efforts to develop high-quality, affordable, state-of-the-art technology that offers energy-saving opportunities for hotels of all descriptions. The battery operated SensorStat® DDC with SenerlinkTM is the just the first of a new in-room, wireless, device-to-device communications platform.  We believe Senerlink will set the bar for intelligent guestrooms."

The SensorStat® DDC with Senerlink provides all the advantages of an energy-management system including up to 35% savings on the guestroom energy bill with the added benefits of wireless:

  • Easy and cost-efficient installation;
  • Minimal disruption to operations;
  • Expandable system with the ability to add or upgrade at any time (from other in-room devices to entire property networks.)
Additional advantages of the Senerlink RF communications system are:
  • Ability to transmit through walls, floors, and other physical barriers unlike traditional IR (infrared) wireless systems;
  • Drastically lower power consumption compared with IR wireless systems;
  • Allows inter-room communication between other electronic devices (such as lighting, minibars, locks, safes and other in-room or out-of-room devices);
  • Allows inter-operability between Onity / Senercomm® and third-party products using the same RF protocol.
The new SensorStat® DDC with SenerlinkTM offers the advantage of being a truly wireless deviceit has the option of being battery-powered, unlike other wireless devices that may have to be hard-wired to an electrical source for power. Thus, the unit can be installed anywhere in the roommaking installation simpler and giving hoteliers more flexibility.

Onity / Senercomms® intensive research and development has resulted in a product that follows strict FCC part 15.247 rules and uses highly restricted frequency bands.  An interface is available for the standard 802.11x.  The device also uses CSMA/CA protocol that automatically frequency hops to ensure clear, interference-free transmission.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the rollout of the SensorStat® DDC with Senerlink is that it signals the beginning of a new era in in-room systems monitoring and data-retrieval, Metivier said. In the past, wireless energy management systems have only been available through infrared.  This revolutionary new Senerlink wireless system based on RF technology will serve as the platform upon which all guestroom devices will be linked. The result will be a cost-saving, quick-return-on-investment, in-room system that will set the standard for the hotel industry.
