As Hotel Operators Plan for 2004,
Technology Spending Plans Are Mixed
The Duck LLC sees over 55% changing plans for technology budgets in 2004, Infrastructure & Equipment Replacement high on the priority list.

Ridgefield, CT Nov 20, 2003 The Duck LLC, a Strategy, Marketing and Technology firm for the Travel industry today announced the release of its 2004 Hotel Technology Spend survey. The survey, which was conducted across North American hotel companies, identified key trends and priorities for technology spending throughout the industry in 2004.

The last few years have been tough for the Hotel Technology industry, stated Danny Hudson, President of The Duck, LLC, Forecasting spend patterns and trends for technology acquisition has been very difficult due to global economic issues, the general depression of the travel industry, the effects of SARS and the residual effects of the unusually high spend on technology in preparation for the year 2000. This survey, with the input of key decision makers and influencers across the industry, delivers real guidance into plans and expectations for 2004 and provides hoteliers with key competitive benchmark data and technology companies with insight to help prepare for 2004.

Most respondents indicated that they are on track to consume all or most of their 2003 technology budget with 20% stating that they will spend around 75% of their 2003 budget. Many 2004 budgets are expected to change from 2003 levels with only 43% of respondents budgeting for the same technology dollars as 2003.

At the top of the priority list for 2004 spending is Infrastructure and Equipment replacement with 80% of respondents citing this as one of the main spend items for 2004 and 30% of respondents stating that this is the Primary planned spend item for the year.
