Starwood's Opens First Vacation Ownership Property in Hawaii,
The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas
MAUI, Hawai'i, Dec. 5, 2003 - Starwood Vacation Ownership, Inc. held a traditional Hawaiian blessing for its grand opening of the first phase of The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Starwood's first vacation ownership property in Hawai'i.  Prior to opening in September 2003, the resort sold out its inventory of the first phase consisting of 103 villas.  Upon completion, the property will have 280 villas. The resort has brought approximately 200 jobs to the island of Maui.

.
"We are extremely excited to officially open what is the most successful vacation ownership resort in Hawai'i," said Raymond "Rip" Gellein, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of SVO.  "We have an incredible product that has raised the bar for the entire industry.  Hawai'i is an important market for Starwood and we look forward to increasing our presence on the islands."

The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas features deluxe and premium studio and one- and two-bedroom villas overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  Each villa comes with the luxuries of a well-appointed home with distinctive touches that reflect typical Westin sophistication and style.  Amenities include a fully-equipped kitchen, living and dining room, televisions in each of the private bedrooms, The Westin Heavenly Bed and Westin Heavenly Bath, washer and dryer, two telephone lines with voicemail and dataport, and a television, DVD and stereo system in the living room.  The one- and two-bedroom villas also feature a private balcony.

The two-bedroom lock-off villa, which sleeps up to eight guests, provides families and friends traveling together the ability to separate the two bedrooms, creating the privacy and feel of two separate villas.  This villa along with the other two-bedroom villas also feature whirlpool tubs and a living room with a queen size sleeper sofa and separate dining areas.

The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas is conveniently located in the area of Ka'anapali historically known as Pu'ukoli'i, thus offering travelers a new destination and a new experience.  The resort is just minutes to world-class golfing, shopping and dining and only four miles from the historic town of Lahaina.  The white sandy beach fronting the resort offers entry into some of Maui's best snorkeling with the songs of the whales readily heard in the winter months.  Maui's renowned sunsets are dramatic from this vantage point with the island of Molokai silhouetted on the horizon.

Starwood operates a total of 13 properties throughout Hawai'i including Sheraton Maui and The Westin Maui in Ka'anapali plus six other Sheraton hotels and resorts, four Luxury Collection properties, and one W hotel.

Starwood Vacation Ownership, Inc. currently owns and operates timeshare properties in top resort destinations including Florida, California, Arizona, Colorado, South Carolina, The Bahamas and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas will become part of the Starwood Vacation Network.
