Jack Schmidt Appointed Chief Marketing Officer
for Benchmark Hospitality
THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, December 2003 … Benchmark Hospitality announces that Jack Schmidt has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer for the international hospitality management company.   Mr. Schmidt was previously Vice President Sales and Marketing for Benchmark.  Sam Haigh, Chief Operating Officer for the company, made the announcement. 
“During the past four and a half years Jack has provided positive and highly effective leadership for the Benchmark sales and marketing teams across our company,” stated Mr. Haigh.  “Jack has championed Benchmark’s efforts to counter the uniquely challenging business climate for our industry and generate important new revenue streams system-wide.  He is an exemplary and highly successful leader.”

Distinguished Career in Hospitality

Jack Schmidt has a long and distinguished career within the hospitality industry.  As vice president of sales & marketing for Benchmark, Mr. Schmidt skillfully navigated the industry leader through one of the most challenging periods in the history of modern hospitality management, growing market share in

 multiple areas in the process.   His appointment in 1999 as vice president actually marked a return to Benchmark Hospitality, as Mr. Schmidt had originally joined the company in 1992.  At that time he served as director of sales and marketing for Benchmark’s east coast flagship, Lansdowne Resort, located in Lansdowne, Virginia. 

Mr. Schmidt has been affiliated professionally with a number of signature brand name hotels, resorts, and conference centers throughout his hospitality career.  Some of these include the former Scanticon Hotel & Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey (later re-branded by Benchmark as The Forrestal); the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Peachtree Executive Conference Center in Peachtree City, Georgia; and The El San Juan Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 

Prior to rejoining Benchmark Hospitality, Mr. Schmidt was executive vice president and partner of The Onyx Group, where he played an integral role in servicing the company’s lead client, Marriott Conference Centers.  In this role he designed and conducted conference center sales training, and provided overall marketing consultation to this division of Marriott International, Inc. 

Jack Schmidt is a member of the board of directors for the prestigious global organization, the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.  He has also served previously on the board of directors for the International Association of Conference Centers.
