and foodservice professionals, the 88th annual International Hotel/Motel
& Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS)
will offer an impressive roster nearly 40 educational programs and numerous
networking opportunities, November 8-11, 2003, at New York City�s Jacob
K. Javits Convention Center.
�IH/M&RS is a focused marketplace for the hospitality professional,�
said Christian Falkenberg, show manager. �The targeted educational and
networking opportunities complement the show floor to provide a well-rounded
business experience for all participants.�
Educational Programs
Featuring nearly 40 educational programs in total, the IH/M&RS
will provide some 25 seminars for lodging professionals organized by the
American Hotel & Lodging Associations�s (AH&LA) Educational Institute,
categorized into five clearly defined tracks: Design, Technology, Human
Resources, Operations and Sales & Marketing as well as a CEO panel
discussion. In addition, 14 culinary-intensive sessions, presented by the
�Restaurant Futurists� conference, will be offered for food, restaurant
and hospitality professionals. Hosted by Food Arts magazine, the �Restaurant
Futurist� conference will examine the current spirit of the foodservice
industry. Seminar highlights include a keynote address and participation
by Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) and NYC & Company.
CEO Panel
Among the 25 sessions coordinated by the Educational Institute is �Evolving
Success in Today�s Market: A New Model,� will feature a panel of the leading
chief executive officers (CEOs) in the lodging industry exploring opportunities
that define a new model for success. John Russell, CEO, Hospitality Artists;
Partner, YPB&R; and chairman, AH&LEF will moderate this session.
Panelists will include Steve Bartolin, Jr., The Broadmoor; Dieter Huckestein,
Hilton Hotels Corporation; Stevan Porter, InterContinental Hotels Group;
Paul Whetsell, MeriStar Hospitality Corp./Interstate Hotels & Resorts.
�Restaurant Futurists�
The third annual �Restaurant Futurists� program will focus on �Change
in Fast Forward (and a Bit of Reverse)�. The program will include a keynote
session led by Tony May, owner, San Domenico (New York, NY), titled �Change
in Fast Speed�. Other notable programs include �The New Tourists and How
to Capture Them� presented by Cristyne Nicholas of NYC & Company and
a �Special Presentation by DiRoNA: How Great Restaurants Keep Their Edge
in Challenging Times�.
Networking Opportunities
International Hospitality Ball
Hoteliers from New York, across the United States and around the world
will gather at New York's Marriott Marquis for the 88th annual International
Hospitality Ball. This black-tie gala, sponsored by the IH/M&RS in
cooperation with the Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC), New York
State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSH&TA) and the American
Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), will celebrate the 125th Anniversary
of the HANYC. An elegant reception, dinner, entertainment and dancing will

Gold Key Awards for Hospitality Design
The 23rd annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design,
sponsored by Hospitality Design and Hotel & Motel Management magazines,
recognize designers of restaurants and lodging properties for excellence
in seven categories. Grand prize winners, finalists, and the Best of Show
winner, will be recognized at the Gold Key Awards Breakfast Ceremony, Monday,
November 10, at New York City�s Waldorf=Astoria. Tickets for the Gold Key
Awards Breakfast, which runs 7:30 - 10:00 a.m., are $75 per person with

Culinary Resource Center
The IH/M&RS Culinary Resource Center provides unmatched opportunities
for chefs, restaurateurs, and other foodservice professionals. Highlights
include the 8th annual IH/M&RS Chefs� Championships, with participants
from across the country competing for cash prizes and American Culinary
Federation (ACF) certification points; the DiRoNA Chef�s Showcase; the
135th Annual Salon of Culinary Art, presented by the Societe Culinaire
Philanthropique, featuring intricately sculptured and artistically prepared
foods, designed by culinarians for prizes; and the Demonstration Kitchen,
hosted by Food Arts magazine and presented in conjunction with the Salon
of Culinary Art, offering daily live demonstrations by top chefs, with

Presented in cooperation with Hospitality Upgrade magazine, the Technology
Innovation Center features numerous manufacturers demonstrating inventive

and restaurants today.
The 88th annual IH/M&RS will be held November 8-11, 2003, at New
York City�s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The IH/M&RS presents
approximately 1,800 exhibitors in five distinct markets: Décor,
Technology, Restaurant, Flavors and Essentials. The Show draws 55,000 domestic
and international hospitality professionals representing chain, franchise,
