   Tasmania's Federal Hotels & Resorts Aligning Properties
to the Comfort Inn, Clarion and Quality Brands

June 18, 2003 - Tasmania�s largest Tourism operator, Federal Hotels & Resorts today announced it had entered into a partnership with the leading international hotel group Flag Choice Hotels. The long-term deal will see Federal�s hotels and resorts aligned to Flag Choice Hotel�s internationally-recognised brands � Comfort Inn, Clarion and Quality.
 
Under the new agreement Wrest Point Tower in Hobart, the Country Club Resort at Launceston and the soon-to-be-built Hazards at Freycinet Resort will join the Clarion brand while Wrest Point Waters Edge, the Strahan Village and the Country Club Villas will become Quality properties. Wrest Point Motor Inn and Strahan Motor Inn will become Comfort Inn properties.

hotels across the Asia Pacific region, is a subsidiary of Choice Hotels International, which has over 5000 hotels, inns, all-suite hotels and resorts open or under development in 46 countries.

The new partnership was formalised by Federal Managing Director Mr Greg Farrell and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Flag Choice in Australia, Mr Brent Russell, at a media breakfast at the Australian Tourism Exchange in Melbourne today.

Mr Farrell said Federal was delighted that its long association with the Flag group would continue now Flag had become part of Choice Hotels International.

�We had a very close relationship with Flag and we are delighted that we are able to transfer that to Flag Choice, widely respected as one of the best property franchising operations in the world.

Mr Russell said the partnership would hold many benefits for both groups, providing Federal with a far greater presence through globally recognised brands and Flag Choice Hotels with an exciting and progressive partner in Tasmanian tourism.

Mr Farrell also announced that Tasmanian architectural firm Terroir had been appointed and work was about to begin on the group�s exciting new Hazards at Freycinet resort.
He said designs by the noted Australian architect, Glen Murcutt, would be used in the $25 million, five-star luxury resort, being built on prime waterfront land at Coles Bay.
