  HSMAI Competition Reveals the Best of Travel and Hospitality�s Advertising, Public Relations and Web Marketing
NEW YORK, NY (Jan. 29, 2003) � At its 13th annual awards dinner held last night, which was attended by more than 750 industry and marketing executives, the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) recognized a year of marketing excellence by honoring the winners of the 2002 Adrian Advertising, Golden Bell Public Relations, and Golden Click Web International Travel Awards Competition. 

In what is the largest travel-related competition of its kind in the world, which began 45 years ago, more than 1,500 entries were received from 45 countries.  Winners consisted of �Best of Show� in each of the three categories, as well as Platinum for most outstanding, and Gold, Silver Merit and Bronze Merit recipients. 

In each of the three categories, one entry is judged �Best of Show,� recognizing the most outstanding entry in that individual competition.  The 2002 winners were:

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation; Ogilvy & Mather, Pvt., Ltd. (agency) 

Edward L. Bernays Award/Public Relations Best of Show 
Norfolk International Airport; The Meridian Group (agency)

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts 

Platinum Awards recognized the most outstanding entry from each category of the travel industry and were judged the best-of-the-best from all the gold winning entries in their respective categories.

Winners were presented via a multi-media video presentation, and were welcomed on stage to accept their awards.  Case studies on the best of show and platinum award winners are also featured in a special section of the winter issue of the HSMAI Marketing Review, which was distributed to all attendees at the end of the dinner. 

This year�s event, emceed by Bruce J. Himelstein, CHME, senior vice president, sales and marketing of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Global Chairman of HSMAI, was held at the New York Marriott Marquis and attended by a who�s who of the hospitality and travel industry. 

HSMAI also paid tribute to two individuals who have made lasting impressions on the industry, with the Albert E. Koehl Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Peter Warren, CHME, president and founder of Warren Kremer Paino Advertising, and the Winthrop W. Grice Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed on Bunny Grossinger. 

Also, Loews Hotels was named eMarketer of the Year, sponsored by TravelCLICK; Vicki Freed, senior vice president of sales & marketing, Carnival Cruise Lines was recognized with the �HSMAI Award for Top Sales Achievement.� 

�This annual awards competition and evening of recognition is a way of showing the entire industry the year�s best of the best �creative, innovative and cutting-edge marketing campaigns and the talent behind them,� said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.
