The Americas
Mark Vinciguerra will be joining the Phoenician in February as its Managing Director. He joins from the Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa where he was the Regional Vice President and General Manager for four years. His mission: bring back to Starwood the Fifth AAA Diamond lost by the Phoenician in 2002 (the property received Five Stars from Mobil for both the hotel and its star restaurant Mary Elaine¹s). Vinciguerra will also oversee the construction of 155 luxury condominium units on the grounds of the resort.

Kenneth Humes has joined RockResorts as General Manager of La Posada de Santa Fe in New Mexico. Humes was previously with Pacific Union where he was overseeing three of their properties, including flagship Meadowood. Santa Fe is not completely new to him since he spent a couple of years at the Eldorado Hotel in the mid eighties.

Michael French has been appointed Chief Operating Officer ­ Resort Operations for the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino in Mescalero, New Mexico.  He most recently was Senior Vice President of Operations for four years at the Venetian Hotel Casino Resort in Las Vegas, responsible for all gaming, hotel, food & beverage, engineering and security, plus involvement in high-end player marketing. He also served as Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations for Caesar¹s Palace in Las Vegas; Managing Director for the former Loews Anatole in Dallas and Vice President/General Manager at the Peabody Orlando.  Brian Parrish has been appointed Director of Resort Marketing for the Inn of the Mountain Gods. He too served at the Venetian, where he was Vice President of Marketing for two years, a position he had left to form his own marketing consulting group. 

John Pye has been appointed President of Canada¹s Delta Hotels. Most recently based in Scottsdale, with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Pye was the Regional Vice-President and General Manager of the Five-Diamond Fairmont Scottsdale Princess for the past two-and-a-half years. 

Arte Nathan has joined Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas as Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer, after two years in consulting and outsourcing with PriceWaterhouse Coopers.  Nathan is back with Steven Wynn for whom he worked for seventeen years.  Nathan will be responsible for all human resources activities related to the opening of Le Rêve in Las Vegas in 2005 and Steve Wynn¹s 2000-room Macau hotel-casino in 2004. 

Eric Friden, owner of Santa Barbara¹s quaint (and dowdy) El Encanto Hotel and Garden Villas since 1977, is preparing to undertake a $10 million-plus restoration to bring it to a five-star status. He has hired Kerman Beriker as Vice President/General Manager. Beriker once was the General Manager of the Beverly Hills Hotel and managed a $150 million renovation for its owner the Sultan of Brunei. Beriker also once was the General Manager of the Hotel Bel-Air.

Raymond Grant has been named Executive Director of Sundance Village. He previously served as a Managing Director of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 and, since 1998, as Artistic Director of the 2002 Olympic Arts Festival. 

Mike Islava is the new Director of Sales and Marketing for La Quinta in Palm Springs. He took over from Bill Parr who has been named Director of Sales and Marketing at the Givenchy Resort.  Prior to La Quinta, Parr held the same position at La Costa Resort & Spa for six years. Islava comes from the Lodge at Rancho Mirage, a former Ritz-Carlton property. He spent fourteen years with Ritz-Carlton.

Pat Mene left his position of Vice President of Programs and Standards at Ritz-Carlton. Mene had led Ritz-Carlton¹s quality efforts for more than twelve years and was instrumental in the company being awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1992 and again in 1999. 

Joseph Zaiden has been named General Manager of the Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort.  He most recently served as General Manager of the 260-room Conrad Hurghada Resort in Egypt, a position held since 2001. 

Edward Mady has been named Vice President and Area General Manager for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. Mady, who will continue as General Manager at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco, will now also oversee the Half Moon Bay, Lake Las Vegas and Phoenix properties. He joined the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco in1997 as General Manager.  Previously, he served as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton New York.  His career with the company began in 1988 as Hotel Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead. 

Didier Jardin has been appointed Director of Food and Beverage for the Four Seasons New York, replacing Ruud Van Dijk, who was promoted to Shanghai as Resident Manager. Jardin has been with Four Seasons since 1994, at the Four Seasons Maui and the Ritz-Carlton Chicago.  Most recently he was the Food and Beverage Director at the Four Seasons Santa Barbara. Like the Four Seasons Santa Barbara, the Four Seasons New York belongs to Beanie Baby tycoon Ty Warner.

Speaking of Ty Warner (dubbed "reclusive billionaire" by the Los Angeles Times this month) he recently hired Alan Campey as special marketing consultant for his hotel assets (which also include Montecito¹s San Ysidro Ranch). Campey, a former Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Rosewood, was also a founder of Noble House Hotels & Resorts.

Matthew Martinucci is the new Director of Sales and Marketing at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco. Martinucci was previously the Director of Sales and Marketing with the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City.

Robert Cohn has been appointed Director of Food and Beverage at the Adam¹s Mark in St.  Louis. He was previously with Chateau Elan Winery & Resort in Brazelton, Georgia and La Quinta in Palm Springs. He also spent eight years with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

Jennifer Alexy is the new Director of Sales and Marketing at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach. Alexy was previously the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City. She is replacing Jay Marsella who left the company. 

Martin Rhomberg has been appointed Director of Food & Beverage at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, replacing Jorge Moran who had been there since the hotel opening. Originally from Austria, Rhomberg became a Four Seasons employee when the company took over the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires where he was the Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Food and Beverage. He later transferred to the Four Seasons Caracas, a property which is currently closed.

Tony Rodriguez has been appointed Director of Sales at the Four Seasons Philadelphia. He was previously Group Sales Manager at the hotel and also worked at the Four Seasons Houston as Corporate Sales Manager.

Philippe Larrieu is joining the pre-opening team at the Four Seasons Great Exuma as Director of Food & Beverage in February. Larrieu was previously Assistant Director of Food & Beverage at the Four Seasons Hualalai. He began his career with Four Seasons in Beverly Hills in 1994. 

Kimberly Simms has joined the spa management team at the upcoming Montage Resort & Spa.

Simms has worked as a Spa Director at Le Mérigot and Loews in Santa Monica. 

Gregory French has been appointed Director of Golf Operations for Benchmark Golf, a wholly owned subsidiary of Benchmark Hospitality. French was previously Director of Operations for Western Golf Properties, in Scottsdale, where he was responsible for six 18-hole golf courses. 

Christophe Bonnegrace returns to Las Vegas where he has been appointed Executive Chef at Little Buddha at the Palms. He worked in Las Vegas for several years before, his latest position there was with the MGM Mirage as Executive Sous Chef.

Olivier Carlos has been appointed Assistant Pastry Chef at the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Carlos was previously Assistant Pastry Chef at Fauchon in Paris and Executive Pastry Chef at the Cuisinart Resort and Spa in Anguilla. 

Albert Charbonneau has been appointed Assistant Director of Food and Beverage at Shutters on the Beach. He was previously Restaurant Manager at Raffles L¹Ermitage for one year. Prior to an opening stint at the W Los Angeles, he was at L¹Orangerie for several years. 

Jeff David has been named Food & Beverage Manager at Cap Juluca in Anguilla. He comes from Little Dix Bay where he was the Food & Beverage Manager. Prior to that, he was at the Four Seasons Boston, as Restaurant Manager and Banquet Manager.  His hospitality career began at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. 

Lucinda Gaudio is the Director of Sales at the Inter-Continental Central Park South New York. She previously worked as Director of Sales at the Lombardy for four years.

Christophe Chatron-Michaud has been appointed General Manager for Aureole at the Mandalay Bay and Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Seasons Las Vegas. He was previously with the MGM as Restaurant Director for the Mansion. Chatron-Michaud also worked at New York¹s top restaurants Daniel, Jean-Georges and Bouley.

Elena Mullican, formerly Director of Catering and Conference Services at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey, is now the Director of Catering and Conference Services at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead. She replaces Grant Dipman who moves from Buckhead to the Ritz-Carlton Resorts of Naples.
Bradford Thompson is the new Chef de Cuisine at Mary Elaine¹s at the Phoenician. He replaces James Boyce who is now at Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach. Thompson was previously with Restaurant Daniel in New York and its sister property, DB Bistro Moderne.

Montage Resort & Spa has appointed Jonathan Pflueger as Executive Chef. Previously the owner and founder of Vertical Restaurant & Wine Bar in Laguna Beach, Pflueger was also the Executive Sous Chef of New York's venerable Russian Tea Room and Executive Chef of the acclaimed Star of the Sea Room in San Diego. 

Also at Montage, Gregory Short will be the Chef de Cuisine at the Loft, its casual restaurant. He comes from Napa Valley's French Laundry, where he worked for more than five years. John Cuevas has been named Chef de Cuisine for Studio, the resort's fine dining venue. Most recently, he was chef de cuisine at Motif, the all-day restaurant at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. Prior to that, he worked under James Boyce as a Sous Chef at the Phoenician's Mary Elaine's and as a Sous Chef at the Market Cafe at Loews Coronado Bay Resort.

Christopher Coon has been named Wine Director at Montage Resort & Spa. Previously the Cellar Master at the Phoenician, Coon was also a Sommelier at Restaurant Aureole at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and served as a Wine Captain and Sommelier at the Ventana Room at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson. 

Jeffrey Durham, formally Managing Director for the Doral Park Avenue in New York for the past three years, has been appointed General Manager of the Westin Hotel Morristown, a property operated by Interstate Hotels & Resorts.

Austrian born Josef Tueschler has joined the Sandy Lane culinary team as Executive Pastry Chef. Tueschler was formerly Executive Pastry Chef at the Four Seasons Santa Barbara.

Ann Brockett has been appointed Director of Human Resources at the Hilton Crystal City. She previously held the same position at the Sofitel Washington DC.

Elegant Hotels Group has promoted Cheryl Kasprzycki to the position of Director of Sales and Marketing, North America. Prior to this appointment, Kasprzycki was the company's Sales Manager for the Northeast region, USA. 

Matthew Kurylo has been named Associate Director of Sales for KSL's La Costa Resort and Spa. He was most recently National Sales Manager for the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. 

At the Wyndham Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Larry Rose has been appointed General Manager and Doug McLain has been named Director of Sales.  Additionally, Tim Corder has been named Director of Sales at the Wyndham Orlando Resort. Prior to joining the Wyndham Bonaventure, Rose served as General Manager at the Wyndham Greenspoint in Houston and Hotel Manager of the Wyndham Philadelphia. McLain comes to the resort from the Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa in the Walt Disney World Resort where he served as Director of Group Sales. Corder served as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Renaissance Worldgate Hotel in Orlando. 

Sammy Afif is the new Director of Food and Beverage at the Roosevelt in Hollywood. Afif was previously in the same capacity for Le Méridien Beverly Hills and the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel and Spa. 

Also at the Roosevelt, Kelly Fogarty who was the Director of Sales and Marketing at the hotel left to join the Kor Group¹s Sheraton Four Points in Santa Monica after only three months. She was previously with the Crowne Plaza Beverly Hills.

Virginia Dunder is the new Director of Housekeeping at the Standard Hollywood. Until December she held the same position at Le Méridien Beverly Hills for three years. Dunder also ran housekeeping at El Encanto in Santa Barbara and at the Beverly Hills Hotel. 

Martha Ansotigue has been promoted to Corporate Director, Revenue Management for Noble House Hotels and Resorts. Most recently, she was the East Coast Regional Director of Revenue for Noble House, based in Naples, Florida. Prior to joining the company, she was with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for five years. 

Also at Noble House, Terri Wainscott has been promoted to Regional Director of Revenue Management for the Florida Collection. Prior to joining LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in June of this year, Wainscott was Director of Rooms at the Marco Beach Ocean Resort, and has held sales and revenue positions with Ritz-Carlton, Hilton and Radisson. 

Frank Fredericks, formerly with the Monarch in Washington DC, is the new Director of Sales & Marketing at the Wild Dunes Resort near Charleston, South Carolina.

Stephen Webb, General Manager of the Hotel Grand Pacific, in Victoria, Canada, recently announced the addition of two members to the hotel's management team: Erin Van Zant as the Director of Human Resources and Emory Haines as Director of Food and Beverage. 

Marriott has appointed Tim Herrman Marketing Director at the Renaissance Hollywood.  Herrman was previously employed with Marriott International in a variety of positions, including Director of Catering at the Philadelphia Marriott. His most recent position was with the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. He replaces Tom Santora who left to join the Kor Group as their Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Silks, the restaurant at the Mandarin-Oriental San Francisco needs better karma: two Chefs de Cuisine came and left in the past seven months: Rick Gonzalez was the top whisk from June to September. His successor Christophe Vessaire left in December. The latter incidentally had logged a mere six months in a similar capacity at sister property the Kahala Mandarin-Oriental in Honolulu.

Terry Clark has joined the 302-room Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, as Sales Manager, Midwest, Southeast and Incentives. The hotel also has named Julie Shkolnik, Sales Manager, Business Travel, and Jessica Sindoni, Sales Manager, Small Meetings. 

Jeremy Kirsch has joined the 415-room Monarch Hotel in Washington, D.C. as Corporate Sales Manager. 

Mya Lake Reyes has joined the 5,034-room MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as Sales and Communications Manager.

Eldridge Mayor-Parry has been promoted to Director of Sales, Western and Central region, USA, for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts. The position will be based in Los Angeles. 

Robert McPherrin has been appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the 1,510-room Gaylord Opryland Texas Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, which opens in April 2004. 

Ileana Rousseau has been named Director of Sales for the 471-room St. Kitts Marriott Royal Beach Resort. 

Brian Gullbrandts, previously Hotel Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has been appointed pre-opening General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Orlando. He will be reporting to a Managing Director who will oversee both the Ritz-Carlton and the JW Marriott within the same complex.  This leaves the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua without a General Manager and without a Hotel Manager.

Also at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, John Zaner has been appointed Executive Chef, taking over from Steven Marshall who moved on to open the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas. Zaner was previously with KSL Resorts for almost ten years, most recently at the Arizona Biltmore and the Grand Wailea Resort as Executive Chef.

Charles Lennox III has resigned from the Regent Beverly Wilshire a mere nine months after joining the property as Director of Food and Beverage. He previously was the opening Director of Food and Beverage for the St Regis Monarch Beach Resort.

Steven Conte has been appointed Director of Human Resources at the Melrose in New York (formerly known as the Barbizon). He re-joined his former General Manager from the United Nations Plaza Hotel, Geoffrey Mills. Until earlier this month Conte was the Director of Human Resources at the Regent Wall Street.

Christophe Le Chatton is leaving the Waldorf=Astoria after six years as Director of Food and Beverage Operations and has been named Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Food and Beverage at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. Le Chatton previously worked in Toronto for several years with Four Seasons.

Marc Felix, formerly the Chef de Cuisine at the Oak Room at New York¹s Plaza, has been named Chef de Cuisine at Faust's in the Adam's Mark St. Louis. He was recruited by the Adam¹s Mark new General Manager Jeffrey Jacobs, formerly the Executive Director of Food and Beverage at the Plaza. 

Europe
Emmanuel Caux has been named Director for Northern France and Belgium with Le Méridien. Xavier Rugeroni will be heading the Southern region including Monaco and Malta.

Pierre Boppe has been named Chief Executive Officer of Corinthia Hotels International Limited. Until early this year, he was the Chief Executive of the Peninsula Hotel Group. Also at Corinthia, Karmenu Vella has been named chairman of the board and Raymond Capdevila, former Chief Executive of Accor in Asia, will be Deputy chairman. 

Nicolas Desanti has been named Director of Sales Development for Dalloyau, one of France's oldest and most respected catering firms. He previously spent nine years with Dolce International, both in France (Domaine de Frégate, Domaine de Chantilly) and in the United States (Tarrytown House).

Matthieu Fontaine is the new Chef at the Château de Bagnols. Formerly a Sous Chef at Léon de Lyon, he had been the Chef de Cuisine at the Château de Divonne since 1998.

At the Ritz-Carlton Berlin, Thomas Wurtzinger has been named Resident Manager. He previously held the position of Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Food and Beverage at the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul. He originally joined the company in 1997 as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore.

Jiri Kabos has been appointed General Manager of the Park Hyatt Moscow.

Arif Hashmi has been appointed General Manager of Park Hyatt Baku and Hyatt Regency Baku, Azerbaijan.

Stephen Blackburne has been named General Manager of the Park Hyatt Hamburg. He had joined Hyatt International back in 1995 as an Operations Analyst and after further assignments with the Savoy Hotel Group in London, rejoined Hyatt International as General Manager of the Park Hyatt Johannesburg.

Frédéric Vidal, former Director of Food and Beverage for Le Méridien Bali is the new General Manager at Les Thermes Marins de Monte Carlo.

Jean-Louis Dulau has been appointed General Manager for the Hotels Majestic & Inglaterra in Barcelona. Dulau was previously the General Manager of Le Méridien Barcelona and Le Méridien Los Monteros in Marbella.

Nuno Neves has been appointed Senior Food and Beverage Manager at the Melia Milano Hotel. He was previously with the Ramada Plaza in Kuwait as Director of Food & Beverage.

Tom Krooswijk left Six Continents and his position of General Manager of the Grand Hotel Inter-Continental in Paris. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in April 2003 after eighteen months of refurbishment.

Fernando Gibaja is the Food and Beverage Director at the Westin Palace in Madrid. He previously spent nine years with Ritz-Carlton, which he joined in Atlanta in March 1994, and with whom he also held management positions in Cancun, Barcelona and St Thomas.

Victor Clavel has returned to Barcelona with Ritz-Carlton as General Manager of the Hotel Arts, and Area Director, Europe for Bvlgari (Marriott¹s new much-talked-about luxury division. The rumor has it the first property will be in Milano). Clavel¹s spot as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton New York Central Park South is still up for grabs. Luis Marco has returned from Barcelona to Cancun, as General Manger of the Ritz-Carlton.

Africa and the Middle East
Jean-Baptiste Pigeon has been appointed General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Beirut. Pigeon has been with Inter-Continental/Six Continents for nineteen years and previously worked as General Manager with their properties in Tunisia, Brussels, Athens and Lisbon. 

Sherif Ibrahim Aly Mekhemer has been appointed General Manager of the Millennium Hotel Sharjah. He joins the Group from his previous position as Corporate Manager, Hospitality Division, for the Dubai World Trade Center. Prior to that, he was the General Manager for the Hilton Corniche Residence (Abu Dhabi). 

Andrew Spearman is the new General Manager of Lemuria Resort in the
Seychelles, he was previously the General Manager of Malmaison in Scotland. He also worked in the Seychelles before, at the Plantation Club.
Gerald Moutte has been appointed Hotel Manager at the JW Marriott Cairo, a 450-room resort featuring a golf course and water park. Prior to that, Moutte was with Inter-Continental for five years. His last position with Inter-Continental was in Asia with the Grand Inter-Continental Seoul where he was the Director of Food and Beverage.

Pascal Duchauffour has been promoted to General Manager at the new Ritz-Carlton Bahrain, previously known as the Royal Méridien Bahrain. He was previously the Resident Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore. Peter Find, also from the Ritz-Carlton Millenia where he was the Executive Sous Chef has been promoted to Executive Chef at the new property. Find came to Ritz-Carlton from the Peninsula Hong Kong. 

Eric Pendaries has joined the Jumeirah International Group as Executive Assistant Manager for their new Madinat Jumeirah Project in Dubai. Made of two hotels with 350 rooms each, 300 villas, and a souk (a traditional covered Middle Eastern shopping mall) and entertainment center, 42 restaurants as well as a convention center, Madinat Jumeirah will open its doors in September 2004.  Pendaries was previously with the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur as Director of Food and Beverage and worked with Four Seasons and Méridien.

Melik Kizilcan has been promoted to Food and Beverage Director at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence. He joined Four Seasons in Cairo soon after the hotel opened in 2000 as Director of Restaurants and speedily progressed to Assistant Food and Beverage Director.

Asia and the Pacific
Ruud Van Dijk has been promoted to Hotel Manager at the Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai.  He came to the Four Seasons New York in September 1998 from Sandy Lane, as Director of Food and Beverage.

Marc Yeterian left the Sheraton Tahiti were he was the General Manager since March 2002. He was previously working with luxury cruise ship companies as Hotel Manager with Renaissance Cruises and Compagnie des Iles du Ponant.

George Oggenfuss has moved from the Marriott Riyadh, where he was Director of Food and Beverage, to the Pangkor Laut Resort in Malaysia in the same position.

Florence Bezault is the new Sales and Marketing Manager at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort.  Prior to that, she worked for five years with Disneyland Paris and the Concorde Lafayette as Sales Manager. She is replacing Sandrine Langlade who went back to Europe with her husband, Christian Langlade who is now the Resident Manager at La Réserve in Geneva.  Bora Bora Lagoon Resort also announced a new Front Office Manager, Chrystel Régnier, who also worked at Disneyland Paris in a similar position, in replacement of Stéphane LeJunter who has been promoted to Rooms Division Manager.

Also at the at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, Laurent Barruol has been named Chief Engineer in replacement of Jean Pehau who retired after ten years. Barruol was previously in the same position as part of the opening team at the Tahaa Pearl Beach Resort.

Gilles Flores is the new Food and Beverage Manager at the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort. He previously worked at the Alfonso XIII Hotel Seville. He replaces Christian Langlade.

Pierre Lesage has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing for Beachcomber Inter-Continental Resorts in Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. He was previously Director of Sales & Marketing of Le Méridien Tahiti and Le Méridien Bora Bora. Catherine Magat, who was previously Lesage¹s assistant, is replacing him. Prior to joining Le Méridien, she held various executive sales & marketing positions with Accor in Europe.

Halldor Briem has been appointed General Manager of the Hilton Nanjing. He returns to the People's Republic of China after several years in Malaysia and Australia. Originally he was transferred to Beijing, heading the pre-opening team that successfully opened the Hilton Beijing in January 1994. 

Alex Jovanovic has been named General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Saujana, Malaysia.

Nicola Cunich has been appointed Director of Sales at the Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau in Australia.

Giraudo Aurelio has been appointed General Manager of the Angkor Palace Hotel after three years as General Manager of the Imperial Boat House in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Marc Denton has left his position of Director of Food and Beverage at the Banyan Tree Phuket after one year. He is being replaced by Klaus Rauter, who has been in Thailand for fifteen years and used to be an Executive Chef
