as Director of North America; #1 Goal Increase Tourism to Malta from the U.S. Market |
MALTA, February 25, 2003 The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is pleased
to announce the appointment of Michael Piscopo, who is serving his second
term as Director of North America for the MTA office in New York City.
Under his three-year contract, Mr. Piscopo will be responsible for promoting
Malta as a travel destination in the U.S. and Canadian markets. During
his first term in this post, 1996 to 2000, significant increases in arrival
figures were achieved.
Prior to the MTA, Mr. Piscopo worked with the National Tourism Organization of Malta (NTOM) as Advertising and Public Relations Executive, in charge of all marketing and communications initiatives. In 1992, Mr. Piscopo was appointed Overseas Director for the Benelux and Scandinavian markets, covering Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, and achieved substantial growth in tourist arrivals to Malta from all countries. Mr. Piscopo said, I wanted to come back to the U.S., as I find it to be different, more stimulating and challenging than any of our European markets, where Malta is an already established holiday destination. I am eager to continue the good work of the past years, helping more North American travelers to discover my wonderful homeland. My main objective remains the same as before to increase tourism to Malta from America and Canada. After his first Directorship for MTA North America, completed in 2000, Mr. Piscopo moved back to Malta and was named Senior Manager within the Marketing and Promotion Division of MTA at the Head Office in Valletta. In July 2001, he was appointed Director in charge of the newly-created Digital Media Division, where he was responsible for developing Maltas official tourism website www.visitmalta.com and other Internet-based marketing. The Maltese Islands of Malta, Gozo, and Comino are centrally located in the Mediterranean and have the highest concentration of landmarks per square mile in the world. The genuine hospitality of this English-speaking island nation ensures a memorable holiday of relaxation, excitement with a rich cultural heritage spanning more than 7,000 years. |
