DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, February 4, 2002 - Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the opening of its 394-room luxury business hotel, The Fairmont Dubai. The property, which received a five-star classification from Dubai's Department of Commerce & Tourism Marketing, officially opened on February 2, 2002, making it the newest addition to Fairmont's world-class portfolio.

A distinctive landmark on the ever-evolving city skyline, The Fairmont Dubai is an icon in the business heart of the metropolis. Incorporating both cutting edge design characteristics and more traditional symbols, personified by the exterior itself, the hotel is based on the Arabian wind tower or Barajeel.

According to Michael Kaile, Vice President & General Manager, The Fairmont Dubai has a wealth of facilities that will appeal to both business and leisure travelers. "The cutting edge designs and innovative concepts used in the guestrooms and public spaces create a balanced mix of the contemporary and the classic throughout."

The 34-storey property comprises extensive business and leisure facilities - including 128 luxurious suites as well as its premium Fairmont Gold 'hotel within a hotel'; 12 dining and entertainment venues, a 40,000 sq ft spa & health club with gym, aerobics room, treatment rooms, saunas & Jacuzzis; and two terrace sundecks each with a hand-crafted mosaic-lined pool.

Guestrooms and suites retain their individuality thanks to a palette of relaxing colour schemes with bold accents, reflecting multi-cultural influences from Arabia to Europe and Japan, but all come equipped with a technologically advanced interactive TV system and superior facilities for the well-travelled business guest.

Also for business guests, the hotel has a dedicated 2nd floor business centre - The Exchange - with 6 private work-stations/interview rooms and 3 feature rooms equipped with 'smart walls', electronic whiteboards, VCR capabilities and complete audio systems.  In addition, the 33rd floor auditorium has 224 ergonomic seats with power and high speed Internet access, as well as rear screen projection and the latest technology.  There are also 18 executive breakout rooms available for use as personal boardrooms or offices, as well as an opulent ballroom accommodating up to 900 people, reception style.

For long stay visitors, the hotel complex also offers 115 two- and three-bedroom unfurnished apartments for lease, plus 3 floors of offices.

Dining destinations are equally avant-garde with 12 dining and entertainment venues to satisfy every craving.  Our signature venue, Spectrum on One, is a multi-menu restaurant showcasing 8 kitchens with international flavours from Asia through to Europe.  The Exchange on the dedicated business floor draws heavily on influences from the globally-acclaimed Oak Room at our sister property, The Plaza in New York; for premium ranched beef and hand-selected seafood.  The vibrant flavours of Southern France are given a culinary spin in an equally colourful setting, at our all-day dining venue, Cascades, for Provencal classics available 24-hours.  And with a café-deli, juice bar, al Forno restaurant, cigar bar, lobby bar and club also part of the menu, the weekly dining calendar is all sewn up.

The Fairmont Dubai opened its doors for business on 02/02/02, kicking off a season of opening events running right up until the Arabian Travel Market in early May.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is the largest operator of luxury hotels and resorts in North America, with a unique collection of world-class resorts and city center hotels that enjoy unrivalled prominence in the communities where they are located.
