By David Breen, Orlando SentinelMcClatchy-Tribune Regional News June 03--The head of the Kissimmee area's convention and visitors bureau has resigned abruptly. Shelley Maccini, executive director of Experience Kissimmee, stepped down in late May. A 15-year employee of the organization, Maccini departed as the county was considering privatizing the operation. Tracy Ward, director of sales and marketing, has been appointed interim executive director, said County Manager Don Fisher. In a statement, Maccini thanked her colleagues and said it was time "to move on to my next career challenge." Fisher said the county won't seek a full-time replacement until a decision is reached on whether the organization will be privatized. The county is in the midst of soliciting a consultant to weigh the pros and cons, and county commissioners are expected to receive the results in late summer. Formerly known as the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau, the organization was renamed Experience Kissimmee in December. ___ (c)2013 The Orlando Sentinel (Orlando, Fla.)
