The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa Preparing to
Open $32 million, 40,000 square foot Spa
Ellen McGinnis Appointed Spa Director
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (November 2000) What hotel officials expect to be the finest spa in North America will open at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa on February 28, 2001.  The $32 million, 40,000 square foot subterranean Spa, located in the heart of the resort complex, will have taken nearly two years to build, and will be unique both experientially and architecturally, according to Spa Director Ellen McGinnis.

McGinnis has personally selected and trained the Spas 150 therapists, aestheticians, programmers, concierges and other personnel, many of whom are coming from other spas, and some from as far away as Germany, France and Sweden.  Some of McGinnis' custom-designed offerings will include: cool stone and color therapy facials; a special Shiatsu treatment with the assistance of a master Shiatsu instructor; music - choreographed massage; treatment elements not commonly used, such as clay

exfoliation and color therapy foam baths with combinations of essential oils and rich colors; personalized services, including a Spa Concierge for each guest and professional recommendation sheets from therapists for complementing follow-up treatments or advice for home care.

The Spa at The Grove Park Inn Resort will be a combination of elegance, indulgence and magic, McGinnis said.

McGinnis has 20 years experience in spa consulting, having designed and opened such spas as The Spa at Bayhill in Florida and The Spa at the Sanderling Inn at North Carolinas Outer Banks.  She previously worked for WTS International, a consulting firm specializing in resort spas, tennis and country clubs.

The architectural theme of the Spa is consistent with the Grove Park Inns Arts & Crafts heritage, and emphasizes Western North Carolinas natural elements of sky, water, fire and rock; more than 3000 tons of native stone were used in Spa construction, both inside and out.
