Tom Weiskopf Designing Second Golf Course at ClubCorp's La Vista Vallarta
DALLAS, Jan. 31, 2000 - ClubCorp, the worlds largest owner and operator of golf courses, private clubs and resorts, announces that it has contracted with Tom Weiskopf to design a second course at La Vista Vallarta, a public access golfing property in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The first course at La Vista Vallarta was designed by Jack Nicklaus.  Construction on this Nicklaus course is underway and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
The Nicklaus course is being built into the rolling terrain of the propertys highest elevation.  The Weiskopf course will provide a marked contrast to the Nicklaus course.  It will be built in the more rugged, dense jungle portion of the property.

Weiskopf, an internationally recognized professional golfer and golf course designer, has many designing achievements to his credit.  Among the 35 courses he has designed include Lahontan Golf Course in Truckee, Calif., the Troon North and Pinnacle courses in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Olympic Club-Ocean Course in San Francisco, Calif., and the stunning Zimbali Country Club course near Durban, South Africa.

Some of Weiskopfs courses have received acclaim from world-wide polls in the past, including the Loch Lomond in Luss, Scotland, ranked #44; Double Eagle Golf Course in Galena, Ohio, ranked #62; and the Troon Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., ranked #49.  Currently, Forest Highlands Canyon Course (in Flagstaff) is ranked #1 in Arizona by Golf Digest.

The site is one of the most dramatic inland properties Ive seen anywhere in the world, Weiskopf said.  With distant views of the Pacific Ocean, combined with rugged terrain, ravines, mature trees and changes in elevation, my goal for La Vista Vallarta is to create a memorable and pleasurable experience for those who have the opportunity of playing it.

Construction on the Weiskopf course will begin immediately.  It is expected to open to the public by April 2001.

ClubCorps Latin American group purchased the land, which spans more than 700 acres in the foothills overlooking Puerto Vallarta, last April.  In addition to the two golf courses, La Vista Vallarta is expected to include private real estate and hotel uses.
Play at both La Vista Vallarta courses will be available to the public.  But ClubCorps Associate Club Members will enjoy priority and special pricing through the companys reservation system.

Also in Puerto Vallarta is ClubCorps Club de Golf Marina Vallarta.  With an 18-hole, Joe Finger-designed championship course, Club de Golf Marina Vallarta is also home to a The Owners Club property, where members enjoy vacation country club stays.  An innovative alternative to traditional vacation home buying, The Owners Club brings the amenities, personalized service and the sense of belonging that is associated with exclusive country clubs and extends it to unique resort locations.

Plans for La Vista Vallarta began more than two years ago.  The deal represents the first time Federal land has been sold to a foreign company in this part of Mexico.  But the goals of the local and state governments and ClubCorp are one and the same.
We believe that with the introduction of this world-class golf facility, Puerto Vallarta will become even more of a premier destination for golf travelers, said Robert Dedman, Jr., chief executive officer and president of ClubCorp.

Founded in 1957, Dallas-based ClubCorp has $1.5 billion in assets and is the world leader in delivering golf, private club and resort experiences.  Internationally, the company owns or operates more than 230 golf courses, country clubs, private business clubs and sports clubs and golf resorts, with more than 23,000 employees.  Among its premier golf resorts is Pinehurst, the site of the 1999 and upcoming 2005 U.S. Open Championship.
