Wilson & Associates Completes $12 Million
Redesign of the Washington Monarch Hotel

Washington, D.C., Sept 16, 1999 - A jewel of the capital city is now shining even brighter following the completion of a $12 million redesign project. The 415-room Washington Monarch Hotel, formerly known as the ANA Hotel, will host more than 600 of Washington's civic leaders and social elite on Tuesday, September 21, 1999, during a gala event to unveil its luxuriously redesigned guest rooms and meeting facilities.

The redesign, by Wilson & Associates of New York, complements and enhances the flavor and flair of the hotel's two most inviting elements, the lobby atrium and garden courtyard. The redesign project succeeded in "bringing the outside in," according to Margaret McMahon, managing director of the New York office of Wilson & Associates, by using the beautiful colors of the foliage in the hotel's central garden courtyard in the renovated interior areas. "In the redesign, we've managed to create a transitional feel between the contemporary elegance found throughout the hotel and the timeless distinction of its delightful courtyard," McMahon said.

This rare blend of beauty and elegance is evident in the hotel's meeting space, where a

new color scheme of warm gold, deep greens and burgundy tie the rooms together. New, pendant chandeliers of polished brass and alabaster have been added to the ballroom area, while the ballroom's fabulously detailed millwork, etched mirrored panels, coffered ceilings, and crystal chandeliers remain in place. Additionally, CAT-S lines, improved lighting and sound systems have been added in order to meet the high standards required by meeting and social planners alike

"The goal of our redesign project was to create an elegant refined look with all the modern conveniences a business traveler of the 2st Century will need," said George Terpilowski, hotel general manager.

The sophisticated look continues in newly redesigned guest rooms that combine a subtle color palette with rich textural fabrics. New Studio Suites offer an added touch of luxury with fluffy down duvets and additional king-sized pillows with shams on each bed. All guest room bathrooms have been completely transformed using Italian Botticino marble on the floor, walls and counter tops. Each room now contains multiple phone lines with data ports as well as large desks. Plus, a fully equipped and staffed Business Center is ready and on call to meet the needs of business travelers.

The renovations will continue in January 2000 when The Washington Monarch Hotel begins the redesign of the Executive Forum. Upon completion, this state-of the art auditorium will be a meeting planner's dream, complete with acoustical wall panels, custom mahogany stained millwork desks, ergonomic chairs and data ports at each seat.

The luxury property, originally designed by renowned Washington architect Vlastimil Koubeck, has been considered Washington's hotel of choice for visiting heads of state, Hollywood celebrities and discerning business travelers since it opened in 1985. It is located in the fashionable West End district, minutes from the White House and the business district, and adjacent to the great shopping and dining experiences of Georgetown.

The Washington Monarch Hotel, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, is part of a collection of distinctive, independent luxury hotels and resorts in the U.S. offering exceptional recreational opportunities and conference facilities.
