MENOMONIE, Wis., April 30, 1999 - -- In September
of 1999, University of Wisconsin-Stout will introduce a Hospitality and
Tourism Master of Science Degree in Global Hospitality Management. This
frontier program is a fully accredited masters degree in hospitality, offered
via the Internet, and is a product of academic and industry collaboration.
Educational partners in the program include: Nottingham-Trent University
United Kingdom, Oxford Brookes University United Kingdom, Paderborn University
Germany, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and University of Wisconsin-Stout.
The program in Global Hospitality Management has been developed in response
to the retention and development efforts being put forth by organizations
as a means to address the labor shortage in the hospitality industry. The
program is designed to facilitate the international or highly mobile executive
seeking a fully accredited management degree without the restriction of
a campus-based program. Courses take place on-line, in a virtual classroom
and are six weeks in duration.
The core courses include:
-
Issues in Hospitality and Tourism;
-
Strategic Management in Hospitality;
-
Managing Finance;
-
Technology in the Business Environment - Communications and Marketing;
-
Leadership and Personnel Management in the Hospitality Industry;
-
Quality Assurance Customer Service;
-
Research Applications in Hospitality;
-
Hospitality Operational Systems;
-
and Research Thesis or Hospitality Project.
An additional benefit of the degree is an immediate implementation of the
academic material into the executive's organization. The curriculum is
action learning based, requiring participants to incorporate the current
course material into their immediate work environment under the guidance
of faculty and senior management. The student's enhanced understanding
of management philosophies and techniques, as well as their heightened
awareness of the organization's decision-making network, promotes the presentation
and implementation of current and future strategies.
