URAYASU CITY, Japan - Oct. 21, 1998--A whole new Disney
experience is about to unfold on the shores of Tokyo Bay.
Since 1983, people in Japan and around the world have enjoyed the dreams
and magic of Tokyo
Disneyland Park, the first Disney theme park to be built outside the
United States. This year, the
15th Anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland marks the start of a multiple
expansion that will create the
first Disney theme resort in Japan -- Tokyo Disney Resort.
This new resort will encompass two Disney theme parks, hotels, a shopping
and dining complex,
and a monorail system to connect the many areas of the resort.
On Oct. 22, 1998, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for Tokyo DisneySea,
a totally new theme
park, and Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta, a hotel that will provide
guests the opportunity to
actually stay overnight inside the park. Tokyo DisneySea Park and Tokyo
DisneySea Hotel
MiraCosta are scheduled to open in the fall of 2001.
Also opening at that time will be the Disney Resort Line, a monorail
system that will conveniently
link the Parks, hotels and other areas of the resort. Construction
has already begun on the shopping
and dining complex and the Disney Ambassador Hotel. Both of these will
open in the summer of
2000.
With Tokyo Disneyland Park, the Official Hotels of Tokyo Disneyland
and these new facilities, the
Tokyo Disney Resort will cover 200 hectares in Maihama on the outskirts
of Tokyo.
Building on the success of Tokyo Disneyland Park, Tokyo Disney Resort
will be a totally
integrated,
entertainment destination that expands the concept of a theme park to include
the broader variety of facilities and experiences, each with its own story
and theme, to be found in a theme resort.
Oriental Land Co. Ltd. was established in 1960 to develop large-scale
leisure facilities to contribute
to the nation's culture and welfare. That original mission was accomplished
through the opening of
Tokyo Disneyland Park. The success of that park has provided the impetus
to strive to present
bigger dreams and more excitement to as many people as possible.
With the evolution from theme park to the Tokyo Disney Resort, Oriental
Land will be able to do
all that and more. |
