CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 21, 1998 - -- Melvin Tennant, president
and CEO of the Charlotte Convention
Visitors Bureau, has again been selected by Black Meetings Tourism Magazine
as one of the most influential African- Americans in the meetings/tourism
industry. Tennant joins a list that includes such individuals as Richard
D. Nanula, president and CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts and William
S. Norman, president and CEO of the Travel Industry Association of America.
Tennant joined the CCVB in 1992 as president and CEO after serving as
the head of the Oakland (CA) Convention Visitors Bureau. Tennant manages
a staff of 45 employees in three locations and an annual budget of $4.7
million.
He has served in numerous positions of authority at convention and visitors
bureaus in Houston, Corpus Cristi, and Irving, Texas. He is a graduate
of Rice University with a BA degree in managerial studies, with continuing
education from Texas AM University and the University of House, and professional
certification through the International Association of Convention Visitors
Bureaus (IACVB).
He is a native of Bryan, Texas and resides in Charlotte with his wife
Julie and daughter Melanie.
CCVB is a non-profit marketing organization that contributes to the
economic development of Mecklenburg County by promoting the county as a
site for meetings, conventions, sports and events, and as a tourism destination. |
