"The new brand accurately conveys that our property is more than just a hotel, it is a full-service conference center and resort with upgraded business and recreational amenities," stated Patrick Jordan, general manager of the hotel. "Virtually every area of the hotel has been improved during the renovation, which will allow us to deliver a higher standard of quality product and personalized guest service."
The interior of the hotel has received extensive remodeling, including all 181 guest rooms, public areas, the lobby, meeting rooms, restaurant and fitness room. The renovations have upgraded furniture, fixtures, woodwork, lighting and accessories. New floor and wall coverings have also been added throughout the property. Of special interest is the refurbished amphitheater, the largest facility of its kind in the Memphis area. It seats 125, and was upgraded from the floor to the ceiling during the renovation process.
The hotel landscape and recreational facilities have received a multi-million dollar renovation. The exteriors of the hotel and pro shop have been repaired and refinished, and the surrounding landscape has been upgraded. Improvements to outdoor recreational facilities include redesigning the 18-hole PGA certified golf course to feature a new, more challenging routing and prestigious bent grass greens, and constructing a new soccer field.
The Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center is owned and operated by Dallas-based Bristol Hotels Resorts(TM) (NYSE: BH), which purchased the property in April 1997 as part of a $665 million acquisition of 60 company-owned and managed Holiday Inn hotels from U.K.-based Bass PLC, parent company of Holiday Hospitality Corporation.
