 Elsafe Asks:
Are Your In-Room Safes REALLY Safe?
.
Only Elsafe has achieved the prestigious UL listing in the 1037 anti-theft device category, passing physical break-in, endurance and jarring tests; UL listing also covers safes with optional 110v duplex outlets, making them compliant with the National Electrical Code

DALLAS NOVEMBER 14, 2004 Since many safes on the market today can be easily opened within 30 seconds by experienced thieves, it is important to know that only Elsafe in-room safes have passed extensive testing for physical break-ins, endurance and jarring by the world's most prestigious, reliable and professional testing organization, Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

For well over a century, Underwriters Laboratories has been assessing a wide scope of consumer products for safety and reliable operation, said Ken Brown, VP of marketing and sales for VingCard Elsafe, a leading provider of electronic-locking and in-room safe solutions to hotels and resorts. The UL symbol is the trusted source across the globe for product safety compliance. Today, only Elsafe has achieved the prestigious UL certification for safety for its Infinity digital and magnetic-stripe safes and its Sentinel Standard, Plus and Advanced digital series, making it the trusted source for in-room safes industrywide.

Brown said that purchasing Elsafe UL-listed products not only gives hoteliers the added assurance that their guests valuables are receiving the maximum level of protection possible, but it also protects a propertys valuable reputation while keeping it protected from liability claims. In addition, the UL listing covers all Elsafe Infinity and Sentinel safes that contain an optional 110V duplex electric outlet which also meets National Electrical Code specifications.

With Elsafe, guests can rest easy that their valuables are really secure, Brown said. And, if they are using one of our safes with an internal 110v outlet, they can simultaneously secure and recharge their laptops, camcorders or other electrical devices by plugging into them into a device that they know is safe.

This also puts owners and operators minds at ease because they will not have to worry about being in violation of national electrical codes which building inspectors rigorously look for, he said. Hoteliers may not realize that purchasing in-room safes with 110v electrical outlets that are not UL-approved and NEC compliant could potentially result in an order to immediately remove the safes from the property altogether.

Making the grade

In order to achieve the UL-listing, Elsafes Infinity and Sentinel series safes had to endure rigorous testing procedures. In the physical break-in test, a team of experienced testers were given free reign with a selection of tools to try and physically compromise the safe within a set period of time. The endurance test consisted of more than 6,000 openings and closings, as well as 50 battery changes. With an average battery life of more than 2 years, this represents approximately 100 years of normal hotel use. In the dramatic jarring demonstration, the safes were actually hit with a steel ball to see if the physical structure and electronic components could withstand such excessive force.

Brown said Elsafes proven strength can be attributed to an array of revolutionary physical security features, including a proprietary interlocking deadbolt mechanism, anti-tamper labyrinths, extended solid steel bolt hinges and a one-piece cold-pressed steel door.

We have worked hard to achieve this exclusive UL-1037 listing because it supports our philosophy to provide the industrys most reliable, secure in-room safes backed by dedicated customer service, Brown said. Likewise, we are working even harder to build upon an impressive line of firsts for the industryincluding being the first in-room electronic safe provider in the world, the first to successfully incorporate biometric access technology into an in-room safe and the firstand only--to achieve UL certification.

The fact that no other in-room safe manufacturers in the industry today has followed our lead by working toward this certification should have hoteliers concerned--or at the very least questioning their current providers, he said. Security is top-of-mind for travelers today, and those hotels that opt to purchase or install inferior security solutions may quickly lose out on market share, customer loyalty or worse.
