Lasky, Cauvin Expanding Shared Management
Philosophy Coast-to-Coast
.
Veteran hoteliers combined 80 years of hotel-management experience
now available nationwide as Lodging Unlimited opens
Western base in Arizona

CHICAGO July 1, 2004 Fittingly, it was an act of hospitality that brought Morris Lasky and John Cauvin togetherand led to a partnership that gives Lodging Unlimited, Laskys Chicago-based hotel-management company, an immediate base of operations on the West Coast.

That recently created West Coast base is known as Lodging Unlimited West, and its headed by Cauvin, a longtime West Coast hotelier who has owned and operated Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Windmill Inns & Suites since 1984, a group of six highly successful hotel properties in Oregon and Arizona.

John has been attending my conference for nine years, but we didnt really get to know each other well until a couple of years ago, Lasky said. Thats when I decided to take the Lodging Conference concept international and hold an International Lodging Conference in Monaco. John reached out to me to offer his assistance, because hes familiar with Monaco and the language, and I accepted. As we got to know each other, we soon saw we had a lot in common.

Cauvins act of hospitality eventually resulted in a business partnership thats based on the two hoteliers shared management philosophy and desire to grow their companies. That philosophywhich emphasizes top-quality guest service, client satisfaction, employee empowerment, and bottom line resultswas developed by both hoteliers over a long career. Lasky, with 50 years of industry experience, created Lodging Unlimited in 1970 and since then has been involved in managing, financing or consulting services for more than 250 lodging properties worth in excess of $6 billion. Over that time, Lodging Unlimited has earned a reputation for consistently delivering numbers to its clients that are well above the national averages.

Cauvin has more than 30 years experience in the lodging industry. A graduate of Switzerlands prestigious Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne as well as the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, Cauvin worked for Sheraton Corp. before heading west to Oregon in 1984. There he purchased the then two-property Windmill Inn group, and despite a severe recession in the Northwest, turned them into profitable properties within a year. He has since opened four more Windmill Inn and Windmill Inn & Suites hotels.

And now, thanks partly to his act of hospitality in offering his services to Lasky overseas, Cauvin, who will function as Lodging Unlimited Wests chief operating officer, will offer Western U.S. hotel owners and investment groups the kind of top-notch management services for which Lodging Unlimited has become so well-known.

We are aggressively seeking management contracts in the Western region of the United States, as is Morris and Lodging Unlimited in the East, Cauvin said. I am very proud and very excited to be associated with one of this industrys top hoteliers. Both Morris and I strongly believe that his and Lodging Unlimiteds strong reputation, coupled with my 20 years experience of running my own Windmill Inn hotels and my knowledge of the Western market, will translate into major selling points as we seek to expand through management contracts.

Our aim is to eventually have 30 to 35 hotels under contract, Lasky said. There are a lot of under-performing hotels out there that need the kind of management expertise and leadership John and I have developed over our combined 80 years in the industry. Our goal, however, is not to be the biggest management company aroundjust the best.
