Canadas Custom Amenities Selects
Green Suites International to Market and
Distribute Environmentally Sensitive Amenities
.
UPLAND, CALIF.August 24, 2004With more than 4.4 million guestrooms averaging 60 percent occupancy, the U.S. lodging industry consumes billions of bars of soap and bottles of bathroom amenities every year. Now, thanks to a new partnership between Custom Amenities and Green Suites International, operators can provide all the amenities guests have come to expect via a line of unique, competitively priced products proven to WOW guests and help preserve the environment.

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Custom Amenities Inc. recently selected Upland-based Green Suites International as a premier U.S. distributor of its Environmentally Sensitive Amenities (ESA) line featuring dozens of 100-percent biodegradable guest toiletries and other amenities with a full range of product packaging options to meet every need.

Peter Hansum, president of 43-year-old Custom Amenities, said Green Suites International was the obvious choice for a U.S. marketing and distribution partner because of its focus on profitable hospitality solutions with environmental benefit.

Green Suites International is renowned for helping hospitality properties save money and improve their product offering and competitiveness, while doing their part to help preserve this planet and our precious natural resources, Hansum said. We couldnt be more pleased. Green Suites International was our preferred partner from the start because of its strong product line-up, close industry contacts and solid track record.
.
Ray Burger, vice president of sales and marketing for Green Suites International, said the partnership was driven by guests and operators increasing requests for affordable, attractive, high-quality toiletries.

One of the benefits of the ESA line is that we use the least amount of preservatives that we can get away with, without sacrificing quality of shelf life. Burger said. Our competitors usually fill their products just once or twice per year so they can cost average down the fill expense. But this requires customers to pay for and stock-load several months worth of excess amenities and requires the amenities manufacturers to use more preservatives to ensure their products remain fresh. We, on the other hand, are positioned to manufacturer and deliver just in time, every time.

Were offering hotels a stock program for ESA products so they can reduce their wait times and product storage needs, Burger said.

The days of having to wait for shipments from Canada or having to order in large quantities annually or semi-annually from U.S. manufacturers are over thanks to our alliance.

Among the lengthy list of ESA products, which contain minimal preservatives and use non-bleached natural board for expedited complete biodegradation, are such fan favorites as:

  • Conditioning Shampoo (cork or squeeze bottle)
  • Conditioner Honeysuckle (cork bottle)
  • Hand Lotion (squeeze bottle)
  • Hand & Body Lotion (cork bottle)
  • Bath & Shower Gel (cork bottle)
  • Bath Crystals (cork bottle)
  • Boxed Luxury Soap (.75 ounces)
  • Boxed Oatmeal Soap (1.25 ounces)
  • Boxed Natural Soap (1.25 ounces)
  • Pleatwrap Camomile Soap (1.25 ounces)
  • Cucumber Glycerine Soap (43 grams)
  • Mending Kit (cube box)
  • Amenity Tray
  • Shoe Sponge (boxed)
  • Vanity Kit (Q-tips, cotton balls, Emery)
  • Shower Cap (polybag or stand-up style)
  • Mouthwash (bottled)
  • Comb (cellowrapped)
One raving fan of the ESA line is the 80-room Stanford Terrace Inn, which has been a satisfied Green Suites International client for nearly 10 years, purchasing the firms Natures Mist odor elimination system, non-allergenic cleaning chemicals, and air and water filters.

We recently were the first hotel in Palo Alto to qualify as a green business after undergoing an extensive independent third-party audit, said Bridget OBrien, director of operations for the inn located in Palo Alto, Calif. In addition to conserving energy and water and recycling in our guestrooms and elsewhere, we have 10 Green Suites guestrooms and are committed to purchasing ESA and other products from Green Suites International because it makes sense both for our business and the environment.

Several people who have stayed with us have told me they absolutely love the all-natural formulations and one-of-a-kind fragrances of the ESA line, OBrien said. When we inform these guests the products are manufactured specifically for hotels, oftentimes they will request a few to go amenities samples and will remark that they will have to come stay with us again real soon. How many properties are WOWing guests with affordable amenities that help preserve the planet as well as their customer base and bottom line?

Bishops Lodge, a 111-room Historic Hotels of America property located on 450 private acres in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts, is another satisfied ESA client.

Guests in this area really respect that were doing our part to help the environment and its easy for us because the products Green Suites International delivers are attractive and affordable as well, said Kathy Moran, director of housekeeping. Just as important, Green Suites service is top tier. Their shipments are quite fast for the ESA shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, lotion and soap we buy.

Our guests feel better using ESA products, and I can relate because Ive tried them myself! Were looking into adding other Green Suites International solutions in the near future, said Alyssa Waltz, GM of the 146-room Sugarloaf Mountain property in Bend, Ore.

Marion Pearson, director of services for the prestigious Parkway Hotel in St. Louis, concurred.

Green Suites Environmentally Sensitive Amenities leave a lasting impression, Pearson said. Not only are they all-natural. They also leave a unique, attractive aroma, and are terrific personal care products in their own right.
