Graphis International Creates Artful, Distinctive Graphics
in This Years Most Anticipated Hotels

.

ATLANTA Dec. 9, 2003 Graphis International, the graphics division of the No. 1 Hospitality Design Firm HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, unveils unique graphic programs at hotels across the United States. Recent intriguing projects include The Watermark Hotel & Spa, San Antonio, Texas, The Mandarin Oriental New York, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, S.C., and Grande Lakes Orlando and the Royal Pacific Hotel, Orlando, Fla.

Graphis incorporates interior design themes and elements of a propertys architecture and character to create artful, distinctive designs that enhance and build a projects overall identity, said Howard Pharr, president/managing partner, HBA-Atlanta.

The Watermark Hotel and Spa

The 19th century façade facing the famed San Antonio Riverwalk at The Watermark Hotel and Spa inspired Graphis in the staff uniform and tabletop design.

The building originally housed a saddlery company, said Kevin Scholberg, director of graphics, Graphis International, HBA-Atlanta. Subtle western influences such as tooled leather belts and scroll design embroidery are incorporated in the staff uniforms at The Watermark Hotel and Spa.

Transitioning from casual during the day to more formal at night, Pesca, the hotels seafood restaurant, has a different tabletop setting for each mealtime. The restaurant staff don white aprons during the day and transition to black at night, setting the mood.

Mandarin Oriental New York

Located in the heart of Manhattan with dramatic views of Central Park and the New York skyline, the signage at the Mandarin Oriental New York is chic, contemporary and elegant. Signs in glass, nickel plating and stone with natural and polished finishes visually float on the walls, reflecting a high in the sky theme of the hotel.

Geometric grids and ellipse motifs contrast with organic forms and materials, said Scholberg. The patterns also have a subtle Asian sensibility to them, reflecting the Asian influences in the Mandarin Oriental.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island

Signage at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, SC, is simple and small-scaled to emphasize the natural setting of the hotel. With botanical motifs and indigenous colors, the signs are subtle, providing the ambiance of a 19th century beach house.

Grande Lakes Orlando

The sign system at the Grande Lakes Orlando, including the JW Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Conference Center, The Ritz-Carlton Spa and The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Course, incorporates stone and aged metal finishes. Traditional motifs and themes reflect the grand South Floridian architecture of the properties.

Royal Pacific Resort

At the Royal Pacific Resort on Universal Studios property in Orlando, the South Pacific theme of the hotel is complemented by signs, print graphics -- such as the menus at the five restaurants on the resort and uniform design.

Pacific island and 1930s travel motifs transport guests to the by-gone Golden Age of the Royal Pacific Resort, said Scholberg. To give the hotel real personality, we assisted in developing artificial histories for a 1930s steamship cruise line and an early airline, complete with logos, promotional posters and collateral materials.
